Ya know, being an European (polish) living in Canada I always saw plenty of Chinese people around and I thought about them.
How am I different from them? I always wondered.
We are all humans - we feel pain, happiness, sorrow, boredom and all, all alike, but in some ways we do differ.

And then I read The Joy Luck Club (which was made into movie later).
The book was SOOOO interesting, so beautiful I loved it!
So when the next came out The Kitchen God's Wife I knew I have to have it, and I did.
I loved even more than the first one.

By now Amy Tan wrote 4 fiction books:

(scroll down for books)

and I just bought her sort of memoir The Opposite of Fate,
where she writes about herself and her life. Will read some day.

I really really recommend her books to everyone! It's a must-read !

I am suprised a bit by lack of interest in this author - so once again I say- do try Kitchen God's Wife, you'll love it...

I didnt see this thread until now!

I have all of her four books! She is a brilliant writer.

I am glad that a fellow ADer loves books as much as I do! Ive always wanted to do a book club online to discuss a book each month or every six weeks. Perhaps we can do this on AD?

Also, I love reading books by international authors to gain insights into their history, culture, and lives.

Right now, Im reading this very powerful and deep book on South Africa. "The Power of One" by Bryce Courtenay. Wow, each page gives me goosebumps. I am reading this for my real life book club.

I am glad somebody read Amy.
She is really a good writer.
I read her books a few years ago- I am not sure if I remember enough for discussion...??? we can try :)
But I think discussing books on AD is a good idea!

And, if you like reading about other cultures, you should enjoy 'Daughter of Fortune' by Isabel Allende..
