I have been researching for prices across flight online and I stumpled into this on V Australia website as they stated they would be implementing this technology into trans-pacific flights such as to U.S which passengers are allowed to use mobile phone during midflight -

I also learned this has been in service since march 2008...

Since in the past, cellphones were not allowed to be used.

not a surprise.. cell phones aren't allowed in cars now and bus drivers can't talk and be on phone now the law went into effect almost 2 years ago but all bus agencies finally took that into their hands and made sure nobody can talk on phone and drive at same time tho :P
