Hi,

I am looking for a help with this situation. I am dating with this new man and he does have high speed internet. Last Saturday I went over to his house and to plug in my laptop to get online but found out he only have one *1* plug for high speed internet router. I have at least 4 on my router. So what kind of adapter or what can I do about it?? We dont want to spend too much money to get another router but just to add another line for my laptop. Like adapter. Thanks you for your time and help. I hope. :dunno:

I have not looked around for you but I remember buying one from Belkin. They are a big, well known company with good, fair priced products. Try them....

It depends. You pretty much *have* to buy either a router or a switch. If his *1* ethernet port is on a cable modem, then he needs to buy a router. If he has a DSL modem - chances are it has a router built in, then you need a switch. There is no such an adapter that lets you plug in to split the connection. If you are thinking of something like this:

It will not work because it's only for telephones. Each computer needs its own IP address to work, so you need either a router or a switch. Can you tell me what is the name and model of the modem he has? I can then help you better.

Hi, RickL66 is correct.

What I understand is that you have a modem and a router, and that the modem only have one port, right? And that your router got 4 ports, right. If you got only 2 computer and maybe a vp, then you got everything needed. All you need to do is plug from modem port to the "WAN" port on the router, and choose any port number from 1 to 4 for your computer and VP. That is pretty much it, with except if your gonna hook up VP then you need to go in router to set it up.

Never mind I just found out he doesnt have a router. His modem is a funny shape box. Oh brother.

Thanks for your help.
