AC issues

If the ac is low or out of Freon, no matter what you do it wont work. It will need to be vac'd down and refilled, a job a pro will need to do unless you have the equipment and tools.

I'm fairly certain the AC unit is beyond repair, but I can't be certain.

Was that a second hand zune you brought, as how can a warranty had expired a year before you even bought it? If I was told that I would not had rest until I got every penny back. Who was using the zune before you a rodent in the warehouse??

No, I bought it brand new in package from the local walmart.

I get the impression that you may also be confused because of the use of the term A.C. to mean a type of electrical current in one case and as a short term for air conditioning in another.

I'm confused about why this is a computers-electronics-gaming topic? I know that AC units use electricity but that's not necessarily using electronic components. (When I took Basic Electronics and Electricity in the Navy they harped on the difference between the two. :giggle: )

Of course, more and more household mechanicals are digitally controlled these days.

Well, wheres the thread for household goods...
I figured this was close enough.:P

Got it. :)

That's an idea for a new section: Residential repairs, maintenance, remodeling, and landscaping? Or Residential DIY? :hmm:

Yea, didn't realized he/she was confused with this term. AC can mean many things, LOL When she menton AC and DC, my thought was electrical related rather than AC as Air Conditioner.

Yes indeed, Music, And Mickey Mouse secretly jams to it as well, he has a dark side.
Just like Turbos can be used to generate ac and dc power, except my power is generated by and Amp run on ac not dc.

Ask Mickey Mouse.

Good thing the central A/C hasn't failed on me for the whole summer. It has been running almost non stop. The furnance did fail me a few times, HIVAC repairman came 3 times and found the problem...was a simple leaf stuck in the intake pipe. 0.0 How can a simple problem cause it to shut down? LOL that was hilarious, though.

Yeah, same thing here, one day the AC completely shutdown and I take a look inside the AC unit to see if there's error code flashed and yup, the error code stated that it could not communicate with thermostat. I was like sh#t that thermostat cost about $450 to replace it. But good thing that my warranty cover it so I decided to call the AC service and guy came and saw the error code, but he noticed something else, he said it could be the water pump. What!? Water pump?? So, he decided to test the water pump and turned out that pump was dead. So, he replace it and the AC unit is up and running again.
It make sense though that you don't want to get all the floor wet if the AC keep on running. Other than that, it should display "pump error" on thermostat.

So, no charge at all for replacement.

I made some suggestion to Alex about "Home Improvement" or DIY..back in 2010. Mmmm.. nothing happened.

sounds like you have a geothermo system or heat pump?

All of AC units have them, there is no way to start AC without capacitors. These compressors and fan motor requires enormous energy to start them. Capacitors is like a huge battery building up current energy, that way, when the unit called to start, Capacitor dumps a lot of current to start it, once it started, they build up current for the next start ups.
Never never touch one of these terminals otherwise you will get a shock that you will normally never experience like if you poke yourself into electric outlet, its much worse lethal than outlet. i have touched once, man! its no fun and painful. and thankful that I have thick rubber shoes, without them, I will be fried to death.

OUCH! Yeah, I'm terrified of electricity, that's how I lost my hearing a few years back actually... So I don't really touch anything with electric... I get nervous plugging in my laptop... lmao! :giggle:

Yeah, that is the whole reason for the AC to shut down. What's more important is to make sure the tubing to outside is clean, by pouring the Clorox every year, so it won't get all clogged up. The water pump will shutdown if it get too full, then the AC will stop. Nice feature.

Friends of mine just spent $75,000.00 to have a Geothermo System installed in their house. Company had to bring in machinery to bore pipelines into the earth to heat/cool the water that's pumped.... wow, that's a lot of money.
