Ive always loathed these low riding pants. Hope other states will follow as well. While I realize it is a fad, it is no fun seeing butts in public places, especially when I am trying to eat in a resturant. :squint:

Va. Bill Sets Fine for Low-Riding Pants

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginians who wear their pants so low their underwear shows may want to think about investing in a stronger belt.

The state's House of Delegates passed a bill Tuesday authorizing a $50 fine for anyone who displays his or her underpants in a ``lewd or indecent manner.''

Del. Lionell Spruill Sr., a Democrat who opposed the bill, had pleaded with his colleagues to remember their own youthful fashion follies.

During an extended monologue Monday, he talked about how they dressed or wore their hair in their teens. On Tuesday, he said the measure was an unconstitutional attack on young blacks that would force parents to take off work to accompany their children to court just for making a fashion statement.

``This is a foolish bill, Mr. Speaker, because it will hurt so many,'' Spruill said before the measure was approved 60-34. It now goes to the state Senate.

The bill's sponsor, Del. Algie T. Howell, has said constituents were offended by the exposed underwear. He did not speak on the floor Tuesday.

Spruill and Howell, also a Democrat, are both black.

Lol, Meg, I confess I am at a total loss here...
Are you actually APPROVING of this bill????
Or is it some tongue-in-cheek on your part?

What about girls who shows some of their butt lines? does that cover too?

I remember when I was at Target, I saw this young girl in front of me and my boys were staring at the back of this young girl's behind, I couldn't believe what I was seeing, I could see the top of her butt line! ...

Yes it covers gals too. My kids also point at buttocks and say look at plumber s butt! :dizzy:

Oh the horror, the horror!
Last year during the Superbowl halftime show, MAYBE a few kids saw the one-second shot of a tit, just MAYBE.
So, the whole population roared in self-righteous fury, and our wishes were granted, apparently.
We got treated to a Hitlerarian show this year.
Way to go, America.

I don't agree with this bill, it targets poor people and make them pay fine. They suffer enough.

Can you explain why you came up with the idea that it targets poor people? It will target anyone, regardless of their socioencomic levels.

I do not see wealthy kids wear low rider pants. They buy expensive clothes, real nice one. Poor people can't afford to pay fine when their kids rebel against their parents. It is enough that our lawmakers make money off our pockets.

But there are expensive brand named low riding pants too. Rich teenagers wear them too. I have seen many teenaged girls wearing these pants too and they were loaded with jewlery, makeup and fancy 100 to 200 dollar worth of shoes, etc.

Meg, that will be my first time for me to disagree with you :(

nevertheless, that will be interesting if the bill gets pass.

Not here in my little town. Many of them buy cheap 1 dollars earrings and make up cuz that is all they can afford.

If they want to pass the law then they should pass the laws restricting on all kind of sexy clothes that we see everywhere. Esp women show their boobs, their underline butt and many others. Then we should outlaw body peirces, tatoos, the gothic look, punk look, dye their hairs and goes on cuz I don't find them cool but I don't agree with above the law to tell us what to do with our bodies and clothes.

I understand where you are coming from. I grew up wearing uniforms so that is why I have a hard time relating to youth fashions as I had to wear same green/blue skirt with peter pan collars for years and years. Thus, I dont have deep understanding of this. Thanks!

I wish Ohio will ride that bill too, Because I hate plumbers coming in my home sticking their line butt out. eww so nasty! I wish I would yell out " Pull your pant up hairy ass"

Jazzy, more and more high schools are starting to enforce uniform rule here. In fact, there is a school for the deaf that is thinking about doing uniforms because most fights start over clothes, jewelry, etc.

My daughters are not allowed to wear anything except dresses that pass their knees nor can they wear makeup, jewelry etc. at their catholic school.

The two men who are pushing for this are two black Democrats. So I do not see any bigotry in this anyway.

In this case, I absolutely agree with this bill, let's hope Ohio is next! :fingersx:

Not only to private schools but some public school has changed the dressing code, since my son's school started on that about a year ago or so, and I happen to agree with it 100%...
