Hi. I curious about this. My friend told me that it will been heavy? I dont think so... I see weight is 7.0 ounces. I told her. Will almost same sidekick one weight is 6.0 ounces...

If you're curious about the differences between Sidekick 1 and 2 -- why can't you check 'tmobile.net' on the web and read up on both products? I don't know much about those because they're not readily available in Australia. Have had to go to the Tmobile.net site to find out for myself. :)

Sidekick 2 has NO java support. Also, it is no longer accessible by hooking it up to the computer. It is all done wireless and through their homepage for the hiptop services.

Sidekick 2 is a major disappointment!

Agreed! I ditched my sidekick recently because it is too heavy, bulky, lack of durability, download fee, and many more reasons. I recently bought Treo 600 and I am 98% satisified with it!!! The 2% was for no email included from tmobile (have to use sms... i.e. #########@tmomail.net) and smally keyboard (but got used to it pretty quickly. One thing I like about Treo 600 is I can type with one hand while driving instead of 2 hands!

wimpy...6 oz is nothing....humans can't even lift 50 times their own weight. I have no problem with my color sidekick and I'm not complaining. In the animal world, they are far stronger than us humans. So, get over it and be happy what we got. We don't live in Africa or some developing countries, we are glad we don't live in war infested countries or all that. So think about it. :)

the sidekick 2 is slightly wider than the sidekick 1....that's sad...it won't be able to fit in my sidekick caddy, the one with tan stripe on it. I guess I'll wait til some new pager comes out that's even beter than the sidekick 2. :)

Tositos, you're dangerous. Let me know where you live so I can stay off the roads. :) Kidding, okay?!

In any case, if you want to see if you can get a more "pager" like solution for the Treo 600, look at the TreoCentral forums.

www.treocentral.com

Specifically, they talk about push email solutions here:
http://discussion.treocentral.com/showthread.php?t=49897

Hmm, I am not sure if this solve my problem. The problem is TMobile failed to inform me that my email address for Sidekick won't transfer to Treo 600.

Fine, alright there is an alternative which is SMS but I do not like limited characters per send. Of course, any email account with POP3 will solve my problem but the next problem is I do not have an account with POP3 access.

I did some searching for free POP3 email but most of them ends with unattractive domain (hotpop, fastmail, etc) and they are unreliable or just not accepting new users.

I discovered a solution but I still prefer SMS over this... use gmail then run "Pop goes the Gmail" program to retreive gmail email and convert it to POP3 protocol before sending it out to my Treo 600. The problem with this is my computer have to stay up and running all the times. I dont like to do that.

Oh boy, so much troubles! It would be EASIER if they would just lift the characters per send limitation! sheesh!

Sprint said they were looking into making push email possible soon. Don't have an exact date for it though.

Alright, I'm trying to remember why
do you need "java" support for ?

A lot of webpages won't work properly without having java support on your internet browser. That's it. If your favorite website work without needing java, great, however, I will bet that several of those pages require java and that you won't be able to access them without using a computer or a pager that has java capabilities.

thanks, dennis... i have to admit that
i really do NOT understand what did
you and others mean by "push" e-mail ?

Hey, it's a fair question.

When you send an email to a Sidekick or Wyndtell pager, you get that email RIGHT AWAY.

Most cell phones don't do this. You have to tell the cell phone to "check email" or schedule it to check email every, say, 15 minutes.

That means for most cell phones:
a) You don't know when you have email waiting for you
b) you waste a LOT of battery power checking every so often.
c) you don't get it right away -- you get it whenever it's checked, so if you check more often, you waste MORE battery, and if you check less often (i.e. 30 minutes) then the person gets mad because you waited so long to respond.

Some people say "SMS is like email." It's not. SMS is, by design, limited in characters (I think 160 per message). It's the "SHORT MESSAGE SYSTEM" specification that limits the characters and it cannot be lifted without changing the whole network. SMS is just a short data connection that's hardwired into whatever phone that supports it. Again, SMS is NOT email.

so, how do we fix that? We come up with a "push" email solution for a phone that CAN support email. Email is a different format than SMS. Somehow, you can try to make email automatically get forwarded to you right away. Some companies are nice enough to set this up themselves: Blackberry devices from AT&T, for example.

The Treo 600 does not have this yet. I linked you to a way you can do a workaround in Sprint, but you don't have Sprint's service.

Sprint is looking into making their own REAL "push" solution for their Treo 600 subscribers. Again, you do not have a Sprint Treo 600. I'm sorry you're stuck with T-Mobile's (in my opinion) sub-par service. Hope things get resolved for you in the future!
