We already have an FM! We haven't used it yet though. We only got her hearing aids (she has been using "loaner" hearing aids from our local children's hospital) and the FM on Monday. We haven't realy been anywhere but our home in the past few days but I'm excited to get the chance to use it!

Well on one hand that is great news! And I'm sure that you'll like using it.

But on the other hand if you were advised that your daughter could benefit from FM systems, than I'm concerned she is going to find it more difficult than her peers to communicate with others in group settings. That includes other kids and, even family, like at dinner time or hanging out on Saturday afternoons.

And that means its likely that she can fall behind on picking up social knowledge and social skills. Sorry, I can guess that that is not what you want to hear, and from personal experience I know that is not what many ENTs, audiologists, speech therapists and hearing aid dealers want to focus on. They would rather focus on what a hearing aids can do vs what they can't do.

Because of this, I agree with the other posters here that your daughter would probably be better off learning sign. But if you are not going to have her learn sign -- then I'd suggest that you and your family at least start thinking in terms on how you can help explicitly teach her some of the things that our society expects kids to absorb on their own.

It's getting late and I have to log off, but if you like, when time permits I can post a little bit more about what sort of social knowledge/skills a HoH child might miss on her own.

But in the meantime, did you see my earlier post, #16?

G'nite for now.

Predictability is so darn predictable. We knew the script you are following and are not fooled in the least by it. Give up, you are making a fool of yourself.

I'm really not understanding what you are saying? Could you explain? How in the world am I making a fool of myself?

How many minutes lapsed between the prediction and the actual post that was predicted?

Who said anything about online diagnosis? We see her audiologist regularly. There is a discrepency between the ABR and the behavioral test so the professionals that we are seeing (and everything I've read in the paperwork and testing) and been told is that it's somewhere between mild-moderate.

oh I was under impression that you were checking online to gauge her hearing loss.

Just give it up. You have been busted. And this claim of ignorance is just as predictable as the other posts you made.:laugh2:

Your replies were exactly as someone told me they would be. Not that I needed to know. Who are you trying to kid?

I was told that she would use the FM system in school settings. I was also told it would be her "bread and butter" and that they ordered them for every child with hearing loss. I'm really getting confused, before reading all the information on here I really thought I had a handle on everything I should know and now I'm not so sure. It also doesn't help that some people are being not so nice when I was just trying to find a resource to help do the best for my daughter and anticipate what to expect as she grows.
I'd still love to hear the information you have though. Thank you for being so nice!

Would you people like to look at my personal facebook to see I'm not a phony? I've got post about hearing and hearing aids as far back as June?! I can't fake that.

It isn't necessary. We have everything we need.:laugh2:

To anticipate what to expect as she grows? Lady, you can expect her to require around the clock counseling if your parenting is any indication.

Heh this thread makes me feel like I'm in Wonderland.
