Kristin Scarabelli was a junior in my high school almost 7 years ago, she lived 2 blocks away from me, not long blocks but very short which I passed by her house most of time. We both live in a very low crime and one of top good school district hometown.
The night on Mother's Day, her parents/family went away on vacation and returned later that night. Kristin got home with friends from work, chilled there for a while until they left... Her parents returned and found out she wasn't in the house but assumed she might have slept over at a friend's. The next day, our HS called her parents that she never showed up nor called in sick. They had police searching for her then the next day the police dog discovered her body unerneanth trees/bushes about 3 or 4 houses down from Kristin's home. She was strangled.
Everyone suspected that it was Stephen Manolis, her pervert mental-ill next-door neighbor who stalked her for years. They never found strong evidence until in 2001 the DNA tech has improved and his hair on her shirt matched. They arrested him. Police thought there might be another suspect from her HS, James Maher, who dislikes Kristin very much and said he wanted to rape/kill her one day. But they dropped it because they felt that he didn't kill her.

Trial for Stephen Manolis has started recently, but a new twist surprised in the courtroom, there was another new suspect that admitted he might have killed her. This was like 3rd or 4th person police had suspected and interviewed with.
This made everyone in this town nervous because there are more than 2 suspects.
It really upsets me when I saw her mother sometimes who works at my bank. I can't imagine how her family has to go through like this.
Here's some of info from my local newsday:

 definately a twist at every turn u right Vampy!!!!

the defense attorney is definately putting in the jury's head a reasonable doubt since theyre fingering other possible suspects for the police to investigate sheesh -- will prolly be a while until the court case is closed with a verdict

Gee.. that's so sad!!! I feel bad for the mother bec she wont have closure for a long while..

Updated:

Bad news, the jurors couldn't make a decision between reasonable doubt, guilty or not guilty.

Good news, they didn't pick reasonable doubt nor not gulity.... So, it's a hung jury which the 2nd trial is coming up in Jan.

I'm very anxious because I hope that the district attorney will have a strong case against this man who murdered Kristin. If, god forbid, he turned out not guilty, I hope that everyone will put on supports for Kristin's family to boot this man out of the house before he or his family could do anything.

Here's the link of remembering Kristin, there are some pics of her and her family. http://www.newsday.com/news/local/longisland/ny-likris1127,0,6433068.story?coll=ny-linews-headlines
