Has anyone gotten tired of shrinking products from your grocery store and other places? Tuna cans are getting so thin they are nearly all metal. Whenever I see "New look, same great taste" I check for smaller package size. And what about orange juice? I noticed Tropicana reduced their cartons to 59 ounce, so I bought Florida's Natural exclusively. Did not take long before they reduced to match Tropicana. And what about ice cream? They went from half gallons to 1.5 quarts, in incremental steps, just in case nobody is watching. When I notice a product go on sale for a few weeks, I figure there is a new size. Cereal boxes look like magazines now. What are they trying to do? It is driving me crazy at times. I make a familiar recipe, and suddenly realize I need another can/jar of something because they shrunk the familiar size down and now things are not gonna add up the same. Even Kleenex has gotten smaller, yet they cost the same per box. Where are the savings going?

OK, I feel better now.

I wish my body was shrinking. :( Instead it's getting fatter while the food products are getting smaller. What's wrong with this picture.

Just tonight we had our usual Saturday family gathering. My daughter brought a box of Cella's Chocolate Cherries. When she opened it , she remarked they were now 5 per layer and last year they were 8 per layer.

Corporate greed at its finest. Companies do things so that the profits stay the same no matter what.

Well, don't their costs go up too? Don't you want them to stay around?

I was a the store yesterday and saw some tiny packages of tuna fish , I could not believe how small the packages was! I bet you could only made one sandwich with that tuna! Yes, I have notice how small everything in the store has gotten and how the price is higher! The slices of bread has gotten smaller too! And the government said there was no increase in the cost of living and there will be no increase in SSI or SS checks next year! ! I saw on TV that companies are trying to made it less noticeable that they're down sizing by using new packing so we'll not notice the size it smaller! They much think we're stupid to tell what it going on!

come on now! The government did go after some companies for marking up their prices too high. This happen with some cereals companies a few years ago. They had to bring their prices downs!

our dollar is getting so weak.. it purchases less and less than what it used to be able to purchase, hence the reason things are getting smaller.

Which doesn't make sense, because even with our weak economy, it is still the largest in the world...

That doesn't make sense when you look at Aussie dollars. :hmm:

However, I have noticed the downsizing in food last year. Even though the size of food has gotten smaller, the price is still going up.

For an example: 1L of Kool Aid costs about $4.50, I think. Before the kool aid was 2L.

Things arent looking too good, arent they? Soon, all the sizes will get so small and start to disappear. :(

Yes agree also increase prices too :(

Well, I find deception is the rule here. There is no announced package change. It is "new look" or something similar. Why would they not just increase the cost? If a 6 ounce can of tuna costs more to make, charge more for a 6 ounce can of tuna. Don't keep shrinking the can sizes. Packaging has a cost also, so we are paying for that also. Why not bring back half gallons of ice cream and charge more?

I noticed that too. I remember when carrot cake was bigger and cheaper now it's really tiny and kind of expensive, same goes with candies. What's next, a penny sized carrot cake for $1?

Point taken; so any idea as to why they do this?
