its racing heritage on the road! superbikes whatever, but its not the same imo...althought they are impressive, i just have a passion for GP bikes from the last century untill stupid rules took over...

inside the 'modern' road going RG's (discontinued about 1988 or 1989 not sure)

Tomorrow we're going to try a "long" ride, about 60 miles one way, to Edisto Beach. If I survive that, then we'll go to the Myrtle Beach bike week either Monday or Thursday, depending on the weather. That's over 100 miles one way. I hope my old body can handle it.

Open question:

Who prefers to keep the nose piece in the full-face helmet, and who prefers to take it out?

the purpose of nose piece is to prevent your exhaling from fogging up your shield during winter.

Thanks for the tips. :)

you know what tip I would love to know? a surefire way to keep your shield fog-proof. I've tried several and it doesn't work :(

Do you mean in the winter time or all the time?

It's supposed to be 90 degrees today. It will be a hot trip for us. Whew!

I'm not used to wearing boots, much less in the summer. Do you ever bring sandals or some other footwear with you to change into when you get to your destination?

NEVER EVER EVER BE A DUMB SHIT TO DECIDE TO WEAR JANDELS OR T-SHIRTS OR SHORTS /SKIRTS JUST BECAUSE ITS TOO HOT, EVER!!!!
IF YOU FIND SOME PICTURES OF INJURIES RELATED TO POOR PREPARATION FOR LACK OF SAFE GARMENTS TO WEAR YOU'D BE SHOCKED TO SEE WE ARE NOT TOUGH...QUITE HORRIFIC I WONT UPLOAD ANY (DONT HAVE ANY BUT SEEN SOME AND THESE INJURIES DONT HEAL...)
PUT JANDELS IN THE BAG PERIOD!!, WEAR LEATHER JACKETS (OR ANY STRONG JACKETS, NOT DENIM OR CORDS OR BUSH SHIRTS THEY WILL RIP OPEN WITH EASE)
SORRY THIS IS ALL IN SHOUTING (caps) but for good reason.
DONT be a fool, safety first!

Before you stroke out, this is what I posted:

"... Do you ever bring sandals or some other footwear with you to change into when you get to your destination?"

We do wear boots WHILE RIDING. I was thinking about changing into sandals WHILE WALKING around at our destination. I didn't want to wear heavy boots WHILE AT THE BEACH. I DO WEAR BOOTS WHILE RIDING.

We also wear armored jackets, full-face helmets, and long pants WHILE RIDING.

We don't wear all the gear WHILE WALKING around at our destination.

Got it?

We successfully made our round trip to Edisto Beach. It was a pleasant ride on gently winding two-lane highway. The first half of the trip was mostly in shaded woods, so it wasn't too hot. The scent of honeysuckle was strong in the woods. The second half of the trip was in the rural marsh areas. We could smell the salt air in the breeze. We saw horses, cows, goats, marsh wading birds of many kinds, vultures, and pelicans. When we got to Edisto, we made a stop at the state park and beach. It's a small beach with shady picnic areas, covered with huge oaks and palm trees. Then we went to lunch at the SeaCow restaurant. We ate out on the porch, overlooking the marsh. Cute place, good food. I had the shrimp salad wrap. Then we rode home. We had to be back early because we were meeting our daughter and SIL, and the grandsons for dinner to celebrate Mothers Day.

The only negative to the trip was the pain. On the ride back, it was just too uncomfortable for me. From the waist down, I alternated between pain and numbness. We had to make more stops on the way back. I just couldn't find a comfortable position. :( I guess I'll have to do more practice. My butt, sciatic nerve, knees and feet were burning in pain. I think part of the problem is I can't sit on the seat straight. I have an uneven pelvis and legs, so I always sit crookedly. Sigh....

But I won't give up. :)

lol, ok
i knew , just making sure...
ok
oh other hand you're never really hot while in the wind...

i know what you mean , walking fully leather clad you get funny looks from people...

I have a GL 1100 sitting in parts in my garage. I want to restore it but I want to make it a naked wing cafe bobber with spring seat.

I have to take the engine out - split the crankcase - rebore the cylinders - replace internal parts (its not going to be fun and I will end up owing my "swear jar" a lot of money).

I was in full gear a few years ago when I had my Suzuki and pulled into a parking lot. A couple of punk teenager kids started laughing .... then asked me "So ... which power ranger are you?"

followed with hysterical laughter ....

damn kids

:D

 that's why I got a bike! I love to have weekends like that!

ah... typical problem. Same for me on long trip. my back screams at me sometimes. This tip may or may not help for you. A tip that's used by Iron Butt racers - a back brace. the same one that body builder or Home Depot employee uses. it's cheap - $10? $15?

and also you might want to try using any seat cushion too. available at any store or if you have any. for seat - I use the beads. the same one that taxi driver uses. It was actually comfortable!

and you'll be laughing at them when they're squid :ugh:

rest assured, for those teenagers it must been like yesturday they watch power rangers on tv LOL

We're going to try for Myrtle Beach tomorrow. The weather should be clear and warm (not hot).

I put two layers of gel pads in my boots, and I'll wear thick socks. I hope that will reduce some of the foot pain.

We'll have to allow more time for more "pain alleviation" stops. Otherwise, I don't know what to do.

I was so "crippled" after yesterday's ride I could hardly lift my leg over the bike to get off.

I hope this gets better with practice.
