This year, New York City will the the first city in the world to upgrade "911" call centers to receive digital images and videos via multimedia messaging (MMS), which is built into every camera phone.

So if you ever see a crime in progress in New York City, you'll be able to transmit images or video you've taken with your phone to 911, and let the NYPD take care of the rest.

Sounds like it's gonna help if people actually use it and don't get scared. I mean if you seen a guy with a gun would you want to point a phone at him? He just might shoot you, another note is there's the possiblity for it to be misused and abused by teenagers doing pranks and various other crazy stuff.
