My Dad's cardiologist is more worried about total cholesterol than he is his salt intake. *shrug*
 
Salt is the problem?

Not always, no. Traditionally, cardiologists have suggested cardiac patients limit their salt intake, but I know of a case where lowering the person's salt actually caused her more problems.
 
my dad had heart surgery last June 2004 and he know what do for right eat and dont because will easy get heart attack at my dad because he had scars but he cant eat what he wanted include on the lists dues his doctor's order.

but my dad never have heart attack after surgery so he can eat least not too much on his diet from hospital where he admit before.

my dad tell me about his diet after his surgery i know what he talking about it i respect that.

BUT my dad cant get too much salt&pepper and also hot pepper but he loves hot pepper that bad for my dad! and he love hot sauce but my dad not get heart attack but he got little and not too much!
 
Not always, no. Traditionally, cardiologists have suggested cardiac patients limit their salt intake, but I know of a case where lowering the person's salt actually caused her more problems.

The reason for lowering salt intake in cardiac patients is to reduce fluid retention. It is the same reason that many cardiac patients are also prescribe a diuretic. Excess fluid forces the heart muscle to work harder to pump blood. But not all cardiac patients experience fluid retention. It depends on the type of cardiac problem diagnosed. High sodium intake is more likely to contribbute to high blood pressure, so for those patients who also have elevated blood pressure with cardiac difficulties, a physician would no doubt recommend lowering sodium intake. For others, it is not always a necessity.
