    Drew's Cochlear Implant Surgery

I wouldn't say he had problems, it's just that he couldn't balance himself enough to sit on his own. He was a little behind in that regard. Then a couple days after surgery he suddenly could sit by himself for long periods of time. Probably a coincidence, but surprising nevertheless.

    Drew's Cochlear Implant Surgery

My son's surgery was last week, and he is doing well. He received simultaneous bilateral implants (Nucleus Freedom) and is now the youngest child in Ohio to have done so at just under 9 months. He was groggy in the recovery room but quickly came to and chugged a serving of Pedialyte. His...

    bleeeeeeehhhh x.x

Wow, I hope you get better soon! Drew had bilateral surgery the day before you did (6/6/07) and he's acting completely normal already. He's eating and sleeping his regular amounts already and is only taking regular Tylenol. Adults always seem to get hit harder with pain from surgeries and...

    CI on 6 year old.

The craziest thing of all, in my mind, is that you appear to actually believe that all the bashing is coming from "pro-CI/oralists". I see repeated, seemingly unprovoked rudeness and attacks coming the other way. And no one has explained yet where Cloggy has lied. I'd simply like to see...

    CI on 6 year old.

No, it doesn't do it for me. I didn't ask for definition of a term, I asked for an explanation of what part(s) of a post made it (in your eyes) a perfect example of those terms, and why those parts of the post made it a perfect example. I don't know why this is not clear to you. If you...

    CI on 6 year old.

^^Rude again^^ You're not in charge of regulating the speed at which posters on this board reply to messages. Responding to posts between other people are what makes this a public forum. The speed of my post had nothing to do with my interpretation, and it was simply a guess. My post...

    CI on 6 year old.

Which part(s) serve as the example of selective deafness and ethnocentric attitude? Is is where he says CI does not destroy deaf culture?

    CI on 6 year old.

You should mention post #211 as well, where Beetarehoh's calls Cloggy's opinion worthless and suggests he shut up.

    CI on 6 year old.

It's unbelievable to me that any parent would not learn sign if they had no CI and got no benefit from hearing aids. I believe those who say it happens, but I've got no respect for that choice for sure.

Some children who are born deaf recover from their deafness

I agree Cloggy, I have yet to read a post that mentions what I would consider a "super-success story". I've read people talking about the successes that their young children have had, or their friend's children. These successes are happening, and in my area they are happening frequently (I...

    "Letting the Child Decide"

Don't get ahead of yourself neecy, you're going to have to prove that babies babble before we can consider your example.

    Education/IEP/Literacy

Would anyone care to comment on this issue? Is this because of the structure of the language, similar to how Spanish differs from English (i.e. "straw hat" v. "hat of straw")? I don't wish to hurt anyone's feelings, but I have noticed that some ASL users have a very difficult time writing...

    Books about deafness & CI

Rick, You must be mistaken. The over-the-internet diagnosis indicates that your daughter is ruined forever. Despite the fact that you and your wife have raised and lived with your child for years, your oralist, ethnocentric attitudes forever shield your eyes from truly seeing the damage...

    "Letting the Child Decide"

It sounds like you are talking about children being weak in concepts that are taught after the age that kids usually begin to attend school, am I correct? I have been reading many posts from various people that indicate that CI kids are sometimes not learning any substantive knowledge because...

    "Letting the Child Decide"

Possibly ignorant question: What "knowledge" is not being focused on or gained by the child when CI kids are in an oral program before they can be mainstreamed into kindergarten or first grade? Or am I misunderstanding that the theory is that mainstreamed, successful CI kids will never be...

    "Letting the Child Decide"

Thanks for the good luck wish, I appreciate that. However, anyone posting here at this forum is way to old to have an experience that will even approximate my son's regarding age at implantation, technology of the implant, number of implants, etc. Same with the friends you have spoken to...

    Criteria for a CI candidate?

If there is a evidence that many children "without early exposure to sound" did "OK", and there is even a suggestion that earlier exposure to sound may lead these children to do "great" or even "excellent", then I'm going to participate in early intervention activities and therapy. If that...
