    left out as a couple....

*If* she hasn't checked out lifeprint.com, she should. The man who runs it has lessons up that you work through on your own that are meant to teach conversational language at a fast rate. Awesome website, it's helped me a lot already and I haven't even worked through the lesson plans yet (going...

    left out as a couple....

Ohhhh, I see, that's understandable. How is she learning, online or in a class, mostly from you? My boyfriend and I went to a Halloween event recently with an all Deaf group (I mean everyone was Deaf, not from this website haha), all couples in their 40s-50s, all very strong ASL signers (we...

    left out as a couple....

I mean, I'll be the first to admit I'm completely biased, but I can see wanting to date someone who doesn't know sign in the beginning but was willing to learn. I only knew ABCs and really simple signs like "thank you". But I've put effort into learning with my SO and on my own and learned quite...

Kicking a Christian out for... being a Christian?

If he joined because he believes in evolution or wanted to learn a different perspective, they shouldn't have kicked him out. If he joined to be a troll, then I agree with the group kicking him out. There are Christians who believe in evolution! I have a very close friend like that.

How Do You Sign This Word?

Thanks this helps a lot! When using the "don't care" sign, do you index first, or just do the sign in the direction of whomever you're signing about? I definitely need to take an ASL class...as soon as I'm done with college (1 more month!) and can afford it I plan on taking one to help with...

    left out as a couple....

Also, I'm curious...for any one with a hearing SO who doesn't sign, why don't they want to learn?

    left out as a couple....

I'm the hearing half of my couple...and my goal is to be fluent eventually! I'll have to ask my bf if he feels left out...we communicate just fine though. I feel left out myself at deaf parties just because I can't read sign well yet, but I hope to be able to soon! =) *He says no, but I'm...

How come they can use phone?

Ahhh, I see what you mean. I definitely have no experience with that kind of work, I'm still in college and have only worked crappy cafe jobs throughout/as a hair stylist before that.

Can someone who is severely deaf talk normally?

I really hate the word "normally" here. I mean what is "normally"? Hearing people all talk differently from one another too, I have trouble understanding any one with a heavy accent (even British folks sometimes, depending where they're from). A Deaf friend of mine asked me over the summer what...

How Do You Sign This Word?

AND, I think I incorrectly make up compound signs sometimes. Is is incorrect, when signing "every thing", to sign "every" (a hands sideways, dominant hand brushing upward against the other stationary hand) and "thing"? Same with every time, every one etc.? :hmm:

How Do You Sign This Word?

I'm still *really* new to sign, so forgive me is these are dumb questions hah. I also will be the first one to admit I don't understand ASL -- my bf signs PSE and since I'm mostly learning from him & lifeprint.com, I still don't Get ASL -- grammar/structure-wise. How do you sign "mood" like if...

    How old were you...

I've had my sexuality brushed off by many people too; I'm also pretty femme. I'm actually attracted to *more* women than men (number-wise, not my feelings when I'm with someone), but also have pretty much only had serious relationships with men. I think that's because statistically...

    How old were you...

I'm pansexual and I've basically always known that I'm attracted to multiple genders. Even when I was a kid. Most of my close friends have known my sexuality for quite some time, but I started being REALLY up front about it when I was 21-22. Told my parents when I was 22 (I'm 24 now). I never...

    Annoying ignorant hearing people stories

If any one ever said that to me, I would give them a piece of my mind for sure. That's beyond rude.

How come they can use phone?

I doubt many hearing people really feel that way. I HATE talking on the phone, I'd rather not at all ha.

Advice: Come out as gay or bi?

You should come out as whatever you identify as! So, I would say come out as bisexual. It doesn't really matter if your family ~gets~ it, you know? You're being honest, and that's what counts the most. I suppose you could also come out as Queer, since it's more of an umbrella term for non...

    Hearing Person Jealousy.

Oh. Um, well there is such a thing as ear plugs. Why would you even make this post?

why do hearing people think they better than us?

What kills me the most is that most people think "hearing-impaired" is politically correct. I referred to my boyfriend/his housemates as Deaf in front of my old boss one, and she corrected me very snottily, "Oh it's hearing-impaired, dear." :ugh:

Another ignorant question from a hearing person

I agree with your whole comment. I think so often "ignorant" is used to insult people, so that we just come to think of it in that way. I'm fully aware that I'm ignorant of plenty, that's why I'm on this board -- to learn. I mean I'll never fully Get It when it comes to deafness/Deaf...
