Windows 7 Media Center is no longer CC for DVD

Is there any place you can mess with the settings of the captions and change the translucent background to a solid one?

    update on frankie

Yeah... the people I mentioned in my post (which was more of a joke than a "take seriously") wore their babies, but still wear their 11-year-old because she uses a wheelchair and they do stuff like hiking and skiing and mountain trails, and they didn't want her to miss out. That doesn't mean you...

    update on frankie

You could get in shape. There are people who carry their eleven year olds on their back and originally thought they were too out of shape to do it.:P

    Deaf School or Oral School?

Yeah, in my college, while the major is *technically* in the spced department, it's an entirely different major. Some of the classes (especially the first year or so) are also ones spced majors take (like intro to spced), but there are a lot of classes specifically for my major, like Deaf...

Officials: Middle school student stabbed 40 classmates with needle

Here's a list of the laws for syringes in various jurisdictions: Prescription Laws This kid is sick and wrong. I remember accidentally getting a nurse stabbed with a needle that had been in me. The doctors had wanted to do a bunch of blood tests on me, and I was very afraid of needles.

็ำHello :) i need an info on CI

I'll answer the questions I know: 1. Dunno. 2. Dunno. 3. She may be able to hear at the same decibel levels as a hearing person, but the sound won't be the same as a hearing person hears because a CI can't replicate the thousands upon thousands of hair cells within a normally functioning...

    Idioms in ASL??

I think "train go sorry" is an ASL idiom (like saying "you missed the boat" in English). Yes, there are idioms in ASL; however, I'm not sure if all English idioms translate well into ASL.

I will ask Hearies for only one favour.....

Is it weird if I think Sign Text Email Pen and Paper U P! would look better? Or perhaps written horizontally? (Imagine the words Sign, Text, Email, Pen and paper going downwards.) "STEP UP!" EDIT: Fired up Powerpoint for a slightly better graphic of what I mean. I didn't put "I'm...

    books for learning asl/ culture

http://www.alldeaf.com/our-world-our-culture/87126-books-deaf-culture-mentioned-alldeaf-users.html Deaf Like Me is a pretty good book on a parent's perspective of d/Deafness in the early years of his daughter's life.

    Newbie looking for advice

I'm of the "camp" that you should let the child choose whether or not to get one (this can be anywhere from "as soon as they can understand the basics" to 18). And regardless of whether or not you let them choose CI, they should be given ASL. However, I also realize that parents have license...

    I am not celebrating 9-11

I don't typically do a ton of "remembering" on 9/11, but I did yesterday because, hey, it's been ten years. I watched a special on TV about the newscasters' and journalists' reactions when it happened, and I really liked it/it made me cry, but my... "favorite" I guess I'd say, was when MSNBC...

    % or dB?

My mom uses percent, and I could never quite determine how many dB that was. I once asked her and she said 70-75 dB, which is also the amount of percent loss she says she has. I like dB better.

    Football and 9/11

I'm not a football watcher, but if the person is so bothered by it, why don't they just change the channel? They could've changed it to MSNBC. They've been showing 9/11 stuff ALL DAY. In fact, they're showing a documentary/special about the hijackings right now. I believe History Channel has...

    Hearing people on alldeaf

Before mid-August, I wasn't taking ASL courses (though I had taken them before). I joined because I was planning on going into Deaf ed and my Senior Project's topic was deaf ed (which was later converted to sign language).

Cochlear & ASL for SSD in previously hearing 6 year old with no speech impairment?

Perhaps you could start off exposing her to ASL through Signing Time? Maybe she won't think it's so weird if she sees a bunch of other kids on TV using their hands to talk. It's not ASL grammar/syntax, but the signs are ASL. You should also expose her to sign other than that, though (like in...

I'm a hearing girl...I would love dating deaf boys?

I felt like addressing this. Regardless of if you are lying about any other point you're making, your home life wouldn't have made you do these things unless you were mentally ill. I'm a sensory sensitive Aspie with almost zero friends whose father (from my point of view) was abusive. I had a...

Is there a sign for "gloss" (like ASL gloss)? Or would you fingerspell it?

    Annoying ignorant hearing people stories

The only time I ever said I "knew what it was like to be deaf" was when I was finishing a paper for my ASL 1 class in HS at 3 in the morning. It was a paper about watching a TV show on mute with captions on, which I had *technically* done a million times before because my mom uses captions...

I will ask Hearies for only one favour.....

My mom feels the same way. My brother turns it off because he "doesn't wanna have to read it," then my mom comes in and is like, "Why the crap did you turn off CC on my TV? You know I don't understand what's going on without it!" Oddly, the only time he's ever turned CC on was on the TV in my...
