    Sickening!!!!

We can't go just off of Hear Indiana's form letter, though, since they as an organization are biased. If we're going to look at Hear Indiana's stuff, we should be looking at IAD's stuff, too. I'm currently looking at IAD's website to see if they have a form letter and to check what parts of said...

fluent ASL user in your ASL class.

My ASL teacher has had people (friends of students) sit in on his class before (though none of them were anywhere near fluent :P), and he seemed to be fine with it. If I were a teacher, I'd be fine with it (as long as it wasn't every student's friend on the same day ;)). None of the students...

    Sickening!!!!

As far as I know, the most recent info is that there was supposed to be a vote on it on Thursday, but there was no vote that day. I can't find anything on when the vote might be now, so that's the most recent info.

    Sickening!!!!

Me, too. But from what I've found, the current outreach program isn't biased to begin with, so I don't really understand why the current center needs to be eliminated in the first place. A girl who is a senior at ISD put her testimony/case forward, and a she makes a pretty good case for them...

    Sickening!!!!

Just wanted to say... I am SO against this... :noway: Even if they do want to make changes, why do they need to move the existing facility? OMG *gasp* it's on a DEAF SCHOOL campus! I think I'm gonna faint! [/sarcasm] And as far as I can see, ISD's outreach program isn't all that biased...

Any good ASL youtube videos for toddlers?

I was searching for 90s theme songs on YouTube today, and I managed to happen upon some full episodes of Rugrats that were ASL interpreted, and I felt like posting about them in this thread. If he weren't two and the videos weren't likely to be infringing on copyright, I'd totally post the links...

    teaching myself to sign...<3

They're not really being mean so much as blunt. Hang around deaf people enough and you'll get used to it. :P If they were being jerks, they likely wouldn't give you the time of day. Or they'd do nothing but make jokes about you. So are you planning on being a terp or a teacher? 'Cause those...

Father shoots daughter’s laptop after disrespectful Facebook post

On #3, when I said "as long as it wasn't somewhere public," I meant like if she'd written it into a word document or had it on paper in her room or something. But yes, FB is a public place, sometimes even when it's not 'supposed' to be. Yeah, I'm just saying, compared to her, my brother (who...

Father shoots daughter’s laptop after disrespectful Facebook post

Seven things from my point of view as an 18-year-old: 1. She was ranting, and I think that's allowable. If I were her mom and she had said that stuff to her parents' face, I would've punished her for that kind of rant. 2. She shouldn't have posted it on Facebook. Very stupid/childish/mean...

Any good ASL youtube videos for toddlers?

Maybe this one? Click, Clack, Moo - in ASL - YouTube Also, there are Signing Time videos on YouTube (like this snippet of a song about a farm: Signing Time! "Leah's Farm" - YouTube). The signs are ASL, but the word order (almost always) is not (it's typically either PSE or the key signs...

Bill: No snacks for food stamp users

I wouldn't necessarily do a full-out ban on sweets, but maybe they could do some sort of quota? Like you can get this many "sweet" items in this amount of time. Maybe you could even build up the amount of sweets you're allowed to get if you don't purchase the full amount of sweets allowed for...

Dealing With Idiots Who Ask for Rude Signs

It starts with a "v." (I know the word, but I'm not one for using/writing them. I'm a prude. :P)

A School's Stupidity about the IDEA

A 504 plan is based on section 504 than the ADA. An IEP is based on the IDEA. There are some disabilities that are not covered under IDEA that are covered under 504. Also, IEPs are used for special education type accommodations, whereas 504 is basically used to "level the playing field."...

    weird learning phenomenon

I've never felt that need, but a lot of the people when I retook ASL 1 in college (couldn't test out of it) would do it. My teacher told them not to do it, actually. It helps me to view the fingerspelling as a word instead of individual letters. Like: Instead of actual letters, i.e. J-E-F-F...

    Best approach to deaf education

To the OP: My college has a Deaf Ed major program. We have to take special classes about teaching Deaf children as well as classes about teaching children in general and classes about special education and the core classes like public speaking and the easiest college physics class on the face of...

Not to mention it's spelled Frankfort. :P My cities' names are as follows: Indianapolis: draw a 7 in the air with an I Franklin: My teacher here in Muncie says to fingerspell it, my teacher in Franklin did an F by the forehead. Greenwood: I've seen GREEN+WOOD and GREEN fs-WOOD. Most...
