I wish I had gone to Gally when I had the chance. I was too scared because of not being fluent. I am HoH and have a background in sign and deaf studies. I’m in grad school now but Gallaudet was my dream and I didn’t do it. :-/
It’s totally depended on the parent. Working in a public school but having a background in ASL I’ve noticed this with dhh kids as well as other disabilities. I also know a mom of twins whose deaf daughter is doing amazing at the school for the deaf but her twin brother is struggling with...
All my aids have been resound. I stared with BTE with silicone ear molds and did really well with them, as new tech came out I went to the linx2 RIC and wasn’t a fan. I just this week ordered the Enzo 3D power BTE with silicone full ear molds. I have nothing to compare it to but I did not have...
Hearing aids are not a fix. I have progressive hearing loss that is now profound. I have a background in ASL which is helpful but not when others don’t know it. I still have to compensate and put all my energy into a conversation. The hearing aids help and allow me to work in the “hearing work”...
I’ve never used VP before because always had enough hearing to hear a enough on the phone. I can’t anymore my hearing is getting worse. What suggestions do you have? Seems everyone has mixed opinions. I live near DC. I just hope I can get something useful.
It was great to read this! My hearing had gotten progressively worse not 100 and 110 but I just ordered these aids today as an upgrade from the LiNX 2. I’m excited for what’s to come. Thanks!
Hello. I’m looking to make friends. Anyone. I am HoH lesbian and mainstream schooling. I know ASL but haven’t used in years so I’m a little slower but I’d love to chat!
Ohio insurances are not required to cover HA in any capacity. They do however have some companies that contribute towards it when you have a clinical diagnosis. Don’t avoid clinics. They teach and also like to help. Look for a college that has audiology major they usually have clinics in the...
Although I feel like I've had this conversation with you before, if is very hard to get past the feeling of not being "Deaf enough". I have encountered that by many people.
Hey there. I live in MD, near DC. Depends who I'm talking to if I say I'm Deaf or hearing. I feel like I have been in limbo for years. I read lips, use hearing aids (sometimes), and sign. Maybe we could find an event to go to at Gallaudet together!
I've taken ASL at all levels. HS and college and if the prof was Deaf we used a name sign and usually contacted them by their first name. If they were hearing they went by Mrs. _______. Hope that helps.
I don't want a technical penpal to write back and forth with. It's the idea of a penpal that I want. Someone to talk to on a regular basis over FaceTime or skype.
I do sign with them. I don't want to share my personal life information with them because they are my coworkers. I'm looking for a friend that I can chat with. I'm not fluent in ASL but I do sign on a regular basis that's why I said I do pretty well with it.
It's different with all relationships. One of my exs is my best friend and I didn't move on for a long time. Another we broke up and have sent 10 angry texts since. And I was ready to move on within weeks. There's a big grey area. Hope it all works out for you!
I'm looking for an ASL pen pal. I'm not too concerned about your sign level as long as you're signing. I am HoH and never wear my aids unless I'm at work. So just looking for someone to talk to about life. The good, the bad, and the ugly. I'm not fluent but I work with Deaf people in two of my...
Any other hearing aid users feel in limbo between the Deaf and hearing world?
I'm not deaf enough to most deaf people I associate with through work or other events and hearing people so go annoyed by the fact that I can't hear them even with my aids on!
I'd love to have someone to talk to...
