Where you live, will he qualify for a Deafblind Intervenor? I really agree with this. When we moved to the town we live now, I took my son in and got him up where the other kids in his class where before meeting up with his teacher or EA... I remember one kid wanted to know what was up with...

I don't know that there is a straight-forward "solution". I think the first thing that needs to change is the attitudes towards people who require additional support...whether those people are deaf, have physical disability, learning difficulties, or intellectual disability.... the attitude...

I agree with you. I don't think Deaf= defective, or that deafness needs "fixing"... and I don't think it should be (or should EVER have been) up to hearing people to decide what deaf people need. Not all of us.

Nope... my son has CP and Ehlors-Danlos Syndrome, and has always been in "Mainstream" classes..he has physicalL disabilities and, because he requires assistance, falls under that "Special Needs/ Special Ed." umbrella.... It's not a matter of not providing the necessary accommodations/...

I am recovering from a bad shoulder dislocation and break, and I am not working (with my partially sighted Deafblind student who relies very much on sign language) until I am able to sign properly again... I hate not being able to work with her now, but it's NOT about me...it's about what is...

Terrible!!! terrible injustice... this priest should have been punished but once again the Catholic Church protected the abusers and re-victimized the victims. Shame on them. There is no excuse for what the Church did and continues to do to victims.

Yes, tactile signs are "real" signs. They may not necessarily be ASL (although they can be) but they ARE real signs.

We bought Dragon Naturally Speaking and it is SO hard to "train"...At first we thought problem was that my son stutters sometimes and sometimes doesn't enunciate clearly, so then I tried training for my voice. Finally, I gave up... WAY too hard to get working right. SO frustrating!!!! :pissed:
