    Adjustment to late onset deafness

Oh, but I couldn't help but love her. No one could, I'm convinced! She's the most precious little butterfly. It helps, of course, that I've always wanted to be a mommy, so I do have some of that 'maternal instinct' I suppose.

    How to Confuse an Idiot.

*Grin* Well, you're harsh, aren't you Moon-child? I have to admit...clicked on it a couple times before I realized what was going on. In my defence, I don't use youtube and have no idea about whether it's something you can put on a forum or not...BUT I did note the misspelling of the word 'Idiot'.

Anyone have any advice for a baby who fights sleep like it's poison?

You know, that does help to an extent. It calms her, but not enough so that she can settle for very long. In fact that's her now. Vibrating baby monitors are a wonderful thing. I'll talk to you later!

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

This is true. I love the child like nothing else...except my husband, but I love him in a different way, but not any less. It's probably something to do with the fact that I know she could get really hurt if I don't protect her. Jason isn't likely to get hurt. He's tougher then an old oak tree.

To all hearing parents of Deaf kids

That's because it's a scary job to be a parent in some ways. It's just such a big responsiblity, and suddenly, you are supposed to have the answers, and when you don't...it's easy to look to those educated for the purpose and hope they have the answers. In some cases, they do, but you have to...

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

Sigh. Yeah. I hate mopping. It's amazing what having a child will do with the ADD brain though...because as much as I mess up, I've never done anything to hurt my baby or put her in harms way. somhow, my brain is always a little clearer when it comes to her.

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

Oh good. Grin. Good job Deafteen. My husband just quietly walked into the room, took my hand, walked me into the kitchen and pointed...not that he needed too...I was standing in shallow water (he'd been at work). Luckily, there wasn't too much damage, just a bit of water staining on the cupboards.

To all hearing parents of Deaf kids

That's my philosophy, but you have to be careful when you get into Child Care. Some people [who mean well, I'm sure] get so caught up in the fact that they've gone to school and read all the books that they forget that parents, who may never have finished highschool are with their kids most of...

Anyone have any advice for a baby who fights sleep like it's poison?

I know. I know. But it's sooooo hard. She looks sooooo sad when I leave her to cry. It breaks my heart in two, it really does.

To all hearing parents of Deaf kids

You are right, Mountain Man. Before I went deaf I worked with 'special needs' kids. I was told not to encourage use of sign language in two of the kids I worked with...DISPITE the fact that their mothers were trying to teach them sign. I did not stay long at that job, for that and many other...

Of course you aren't butting in. :laugh2: That sounds like something I'd do.

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

My leaving the water on happened wayyyyy before I ever went deaf. My brain just doesn't work in a logical way sometimes. I do all kinds of silly things...but it keeps people who love me amused, at any rate. I also put the coffee grounds where the water is supposed to go in the coffee machine...

    Adjustment to late onset deafness

*Big, big hugs to Skeptic* I'm sorry sweetie. I can sympathize. My parents decided early in life that I was just not trying, and that I was hyper because I was trying to be a problem. My dad, I think, would have been kinder, but he always defers to my mother, so no soap. My mother told me that...
