So does mine. I think she always wanted to respond to voice commands, but voices tend to frighten her - she's the very opposite of alpha. She understands about ten signs and responds to them much better than to voices. The cat on the other hand just wants to play with my hands when I sign...

I have a stepsister and step brother who are schizophrenic. The stepsister seems normal most of the time, but when she goes off, she is horrid. The stepbrother is alway a bit off, but rarely has episodes. I'm sure you know better than I that most of their "abnormal" reactions are based in fear...

Thanks Smithtr, I appreciate the encouragement. I haven't met many dhh people since I began learning ASL, but I'm sure it would be frustrating to talk to a student -slow with bad grammar and a limited vocabulary. I'm actually less confident knowing a little ASL than none at all...guess I know...

Yes ASL happy good. I learn ASL recent. Only my ASL bad. I frustrate don't hear good. Deaf people frustrate my signing. Future try. ASL fun good language. Explain good? Only make sign know.

I guess I see ASL as another option. It won't help at work, but I can still cope...probably always will be able to cope. Socially I have a choice. I'm sick of trying so hard to hear ...what's the point. There is a large dhh community in DC where I live, so hopefully I'll be able to communicate...
