My Mom & I Sing in ASL

Thanks, y'all! For the life of me, I couldn't figure out how to embed the video. Argh! Mom was on Cloud Nine the whole night. I might have to get her on stage more often!

My Mom & I Sing in ASL

Mom and I sing songs in American Sign Language (ASL) at my book release party celebrating the publication of my memoir BURN DOWN THE GROUND. It was the best night of my life much in part because she was there to celebrate with me. We didn't practice (Mom signs that in the beginning, in fact)...

RIT announces national art and writing contests for deaf students

Hey, thanks!!! Yeah, I own my own PR company, so could certainly help hook them up with some press. I produced a deaf comedy show a few years back and got TONS of awesome press for it.

RIT announces national art and writing contests for deaf students

Let me know if you hear back from them. My dad once won a poetry contest. He was so thrilled by it, and I thought his poem was really good.

RIT announces national art and writing contests for deaf students

I got an email about this and was really excited to hear of it. Since I'm a published writer, I emailed them to see if I can be a judge or volunteer in some way. I hope they get back to me! Either way, really cool opportunity.

    Wood-burning stove

Yeah, we're near PA border in Sullivan County. Very warm this winter so far. Last winter we had just bought the house and had a week straight of below freezing temperatures. Then an earthquake in NYC, a hurricane and tornadoes. WILD weather! I have mastered the art of maintaining 70 degree...

    Wood-burning stove

I see you're in NY, too. We JUST finished 1/2 cord and had another 1/2 delivered so we're on the same pace. But we've been staying here full time and will go back to NYC next week and come back just on weekends for the rest of winter. So, hopefully that last 1/2 cord will last through late...

    Wood-burning stove

Thank you! Very good to know...it's our first real winter with the stove. We bought the cabin mid-winter last year and didn't stay in it much as we were painting, getting furniture, etc. But it's a new chimney so hopefully we'll be okay this year.

    Wood-burning stove

I'm watching over my wood stove at my cabin as I type this. I love it so much. We have tons of felled trees in our woods from the hurricane and tornadoes that came through the Catskills the last year that we will hire someone to help us chop up. But till then we bought a cord of wood...

No Interpreter Provided - How to Proceed?

Thanks for the thoughtful reply, Anij. I didn't even think of ADA laws not applying to those behind bars. I will do some snooping this week and see where it leads us.

No Interpreter Provided - How to Proceed?

My dad has been in prison in Texas for almost 10 years now. He's eligible for parole next June, so I explained his odds of getting it and how he can improve those odds. One way to improve his odds is to attend Alcoholics Anonymous and/or some anger management classes or get counseling of...

What jobs in the military would be perfect for the deaf?

Well, I know my dad was a great mechanic, so there's that. My ex-husband was in the Navy and worked on F-14 aka Tomcats and when they were on the ship they all had to wear special headphones to protect their ears because of the tremendous noise of the fighter jets. They used made up military...

Hi from a Texan in NYC

Thank you and please do send the info. I *may* have already heard of the ministry as I've done so much research over the last 10 years, but it's been a while.

Hi from a Texan in NYC

I'm a CODA who grew up in Texas but now live in NYC where I'm a writer, producer & publicist for stand up comedians. I've been a long time lurker of AllDeaf coming out of hiding. My dad and three of his sisters were born deaf but six other siblings were not. My mom was born HoH and her...
