    I disagree in movie theater!

Most theaters are like that. Why? Because they make almost nothing on the movie itself. Ticket sales go to buy the films and to the studios who distribute/make them. Theaters make most of their money off the refreshment sales.

    I disagree in movie theater!

It's not that hearing people are against deaf people--mostly they don't think about deaf people. It's just that when they see words on the screen, they don't like it. Most don't complain, they just see the version of the movie that doesn't have them. In some areas that makes it cost too much...

    I disagree in movie theater!

I understand, but in some places there aren't enough deaf people to go to the OC movies and so they don't make money on those showings/screenings. So, RWC is more economical for them.

    God doesn't exist.

Which bible? Certainly not the old testiment alone, because Jews don't believe in the Devil. Satan yes, the Devil...no. "For Jews, anything that even remotely conflicts with the idea that God is One and Indivisible will be rejected because it precludes true, pure, monotheism. The idea that...

    God doesn't exist.

Some are, some aren't. I don't care to paint any group as "always" this way or "always" that way. People are individuals. There's nothing wrong with judging those around you, per se. While some would say "judge not, lest ye be judged" I've always thought: "Judge--and prepare to BE judged."...

    God doesn't exist.

I'm an atheist. I'd like to think I'm a pretty nice, normal guy. I do not go around slapping preists and stepping on kittens. ;) I don't agree with those who use faith--I don't think it's wise to do it. But I wouldn't stop anyone from doing it, either. I just ask that they don't ask me to...

    I disagree in movie theater!

Well, when it's put on the screen for all to see, it's open captioned, and some hearing people don't like it. It distracts them, I guess. Movies not being captioned in theaters is why I have a 60 inch HDTV--so we can enjoy movies at home in a personal theater.

    I disagree in movie theater!

I'm with you. I think it's a great solution. I'm just saying it's not a right to see a movie in a theater, and it's not something that should be forced by law. I'm all for getting NAD or some other organization to talk to theaters and help them find a way they can manage to do these things...

    I disagree in movie theater!

Life isn't fair. Rights and fairness aren't the same thing. I would LOVE for there to be accomidations left and right for the deaf. But something like captioned movies isn't a rights/government issue, and shouldn't become one. Any act of government is ultimately an act of force... you want...

    God doesn't exist.

Look, I agree with you that many horrible, terrible things have been done--and are being done--in the name of religion. That's a fact. But it's too much of a generalization to then say that all religious people are bad, or that religion, in general, is necessarily destructive. It sometimes...

    Captions on HD TVs

Anything over componant or HDMI (or DVI) needs a CC decoder on the box itself which will render on the screen. Those connections CANNOT pass the CC signal over their wires.

    I am proud of myself.

Oh, I have no problem with that kind of testing on cats. But my deaf cat doesn't want an implant. He's proud to be deaf. :D Okay, he has no clue there's even hearing. But that's fine. He's sweet!

Why English is so differcult :-)

English has Germanic, Celtic and Romance-language (Latin, French, etc) roots. When the Norman invasion of England occurred, there was a distinctive language change. Those who conquered from Normandy and were in charge had one set of words for things, and the Anglo-Saxon who ended up being...

    I disagree in movie theater!

This isn't a rights issue. Just as you don't get an interpreter when you go into a department store or a diner to use the services of those private business, you don't have the right to see a movie in a theater. It's NICE that some are accomidating, and I appreciate it, and it would be nicer if...

    I disagree in movie theater!

That's cool, but doesn't do anything about many hearing people being distracted by "words on the screen." Sad, but true.

    My Hook-Up

Is there anyone here who was profoundly deaf at birth (no hearing really at all) and got a CI much later in life and still uses it?

    I disagree in movie theater!

It's not backward. When reflected it's the right way. It works. It's just not as good as open captioned. The problem is, burning the words into the movies is both more expensive, and many hearing people don't like seeing the words and would rather see the version without, so they don't go...

    I disagree in movie theater!

Rear Window Captioning is more and more common because it's inexpensive. It's not the best method, but it works. For Christmas I got my brother his own reflector so that he wouldn't get a worn out one from the theater.

Sure, it would work, so long as it's the right type. "Human blood and Chimpanzee blood, with compatible blood groups, can be exchanged through transfusion. Neither our nor the chimps blood can be exchanged with any other species." From: GAP And from here: Human Characteristics in...
