What do you LIKE most about hearing people?

I like it when hearing people look past your hearing loss and make an effort to communicate with you or treat you equally like they would treat anyone else. It usually makes my day when people approach me and try to sign to me, even if they only know a few letters of the ABC.

Signing With Deaf Friends Via iPhone's FaceTime Feature...

I have an iPod Touch 4g - it's technically not an iPhone, but it still has the same feature for Facetime. I LOVE Facetime. I have used it to communicate with some other deaf friends who have either iPhones or iPod Touch 4gs, along with my family (they are hearing, but they know sign language)...

    apps for iPhone?

Keep in mind that I only download free apps - I try to avoid paying for apps. There are some apps that will automatically come with your iPhone, while the rest have to be downloaded. I've listed the ones that I have downloaded. (Note: This list is quite long, and I will continue to download...

    Comedy or Politically Incorrect? Discuss

I was slightly offended at first, until he got to the funny part - I laughed soooo hard, because if you think about it, it's true that we get to sign all kinds of shit that hearing people don't get to say everyday. I haven't laughed really hard in a long time, so that made my day. I think that...

    Hearing Looks vs Deaf Looks

Omg... The same thing happens to me and my sister whenever we go out in public together!! My sister is the hearing one, I'm the deaf one. I really don't get why people always assume that she is the deaf person and that I'm hearing despite the fact that we'd both be signing to each other right in...

Colored Hearing aids and EARMOLDS? AGE

Lol, I am 21 years old, and I have this very old hearing aid (at least 18 years old) with a purple ear mold that I picked when I was like... 12 years old. I recently started using it again and still have yet to get new hearing aids. If I get new aids later on I'll pick a different color for the...

Pics of you - Part V

I was told that they have DPHH near Philly sometimes too. I'm not from Philly, but I know some deaf people who live in that area... EDIT: After going back couple of pages and reading more posts, I just wanted to add something else- my father lives in Reading during the week. He works for the IU...

Do you have an ethnic identity?

I can definitely say I am an American. I'm also Irish, German, and a bit of Polish because of my family's ancestry. But for smaller categories, I honestly am not sure where I fit in. Sometimes I say I'm a Pennsylvanian. Other times I feel more like a New Yorker even though technically I was...

want to hear your opinions about cochlear implant

I don't have a problem with people using CIs or getting them. If it works for you, good for you. If you'd rather not use a CI, that's fine with me too.

Should my HOH 4yo Learn ASL?

Yeah, I know. Didn't think it'd hurt to mention it anyways.

    Time machine

I'd love to go back to the 60s and experience the grooviness of it all. Or I'd just travel into the future to see what things would be like or what kind of technology we would have in the future. EDIT: I'd probably travel to like... 2500. Or 3000! Or even 4000/5000.

    How do you handle socialization?

First off, I'd just like to mention that I currently am immersed in the hearing world. I attend a hearing college, and there are not many deaf people around me at all. So that may explain the responses I will post to your question. Do people see you as different or unapproachable...

Should my HOH 4yo Learn ASL?

I think it is a good idea to teach your kid ASL - it will be an enriching experience. But I would be careful about this and place an emphasis on English as well. IMO It is really important for him to be able to read/write English as well as anyone else. It will help give him an advantage and...

    Hi :)

Heya, welcome. I think you came to a good place where you can learn more about deaf people/culture and meet more deaf people to talk with! Just curious though, which college do you go to? I know of at least two colleges that have interpreting majors.
