    Mother in law trouble

Severing your ties with your MIL definitely isn't mean or irrational when she technically harms your kid and puts her in danger. It is your duty as a mother to protect your kid. Your kid(s) should come first before anything or other people. I know it will really suck emotionally to cut ties with...

Umm, My Story Is Kinda Different!!

Hiya, welcome. I'd suggest you visit an audiologist and get some hearing tests done. And if you are neither deaf nor hearing... you could be "hard of hearing."

Prefer deaf or HOH or hearing?

I was born profoundly deaf. I'd actually rather be hearing despite the fact that I never had much hearing in the first place. Do not get me wrong - I love sign language, and I enjoy hanging out with deaf people. I also feel culturally enriched in ways that other people don't. However, I don't...

Thank you for posting about this, much appreciated. I have a best friend who is an aspiring actor that happens to be deaf. I just forwarded this website to him.

    Why are you deaf?

I was born profoundly deaf, and I am the only deaf one in my immediate family. I do have a cousin who is hard of hearing though. No one knows why I was born this, or why my cousin has hearing loss. Although my dad did mention that my grandma was sick during her pregnancy with him, but I'm not...

How forgiving are you to students?

Depends on the situation. For example, if I know someone is trying to become an interpreter but only wants to do the bare minimum or pass the requirements and that's it, then I'm less inclined to help them out. But if I can tell that someone genuinely enjoys signing or really wants to improve...

    your smartphone history?

Didn't get my first smartphone until I was 21, I'm 22 now. The phone's a HTC Thunderbolt. It's alright, but it has problems - I am considering rooting it and installing a custom ROM or RUU soon for better performance.

High school accomadations (and broken spell check)

When I was in school, the only accommodation I had was an interpreter and occasionally, closed captions or subtitles on videos if we had to watch them in class. I didn't have any notetakers. I didn't really need any back then though. Most of the time the teachers never expanded on anything...

Deaf player mocked, kicked out of Warcraft guild -- for being deaf

I never played WoW but I can still relate to this person - I do play other MMORPGs, and I do participate in activities with other people in "clans." What happened to that deaf player is one of the many reasons why I simply do not reveal my hearing loss to other people in games online unless I...

    ASL Swearing 101

Hmm... interesting!! I will have to check if someone made a similar video in ASL later, or if there's no such video, maybe someone else or I could try making one.

Should a pedophile be granted parental visits?

My opinion? Should be done on a case by case basis. And it needs to be supervised. I also would wait until the child is a bit older and allow him or her to make decisions about whether he or she would want to even communicate with that parent in the first place.

What Ticks You Off (Most) About Hearies?

Another thing that ticked me off today: People who think that just because you're deaf, you must be mentally retarded or stupid. I was just told that people very frequently ask my hearing sister questions about my level of intelligence when they find out about me. And I mean very frequently. :|
