I grew up in California, I don't see deaf people everyday there. They're all spread out in the state. I do often see hearing people who know a little sign language.

I heard many deaf people moved out of Los Angeles metro area due to the high cost of living. They moved to Bakersfield, San Berdardino and other places in California and even out of state. You might probably find some deaf people at social events. I think there's one in Irvine, not sure.

Everyone gets jobs without trying getting into college. Not everyone wants to go to college to able afford a place in a nice area. Everyone just needs basic, safe area even in a large metro area. Too bad it's not Utopia anymore.
