Why do deaf get offended when hearing people....

I wasn't arguing that point, if you'd re-read my comment you'll see how I said that I think it IS rude of people to do so. I guess I'm just more patient with staring people... I wear formal clothing (suits, etc) on almost a daily basis (and pretty much all of my childhood), which is something...

Why do deaf get offended when hearing people....

I wouldn't say they are eavesdropping 98% of the time... to eavesdrop would be to understand what you are saying ... most of the people who stare don't understand a single sign. I'm not saying that it isn't RUDE, I do think it can be very rude. I'd say it's mostly curiosity that makes people...

    Deaf Psychosis?

Ignorance is a common thread in every ethnicity, every culture, every language, ever country... EVERYTHING. Even well educated deaf/Deaf people are capable of being completely ignorant ... to say that one deaf who comes from hearing parents doesn't know what it's like to be truly be deaf is...

    Rochester Method

When my friend was young they had a deaf neighbor, she wanted to communicate with him but did not speak sign language, she learnt the ASL alphabet and (being as she was very young) concluded that this WAS the language and began using the so-called "Rochester Method" with this boy, they could...

    sign language

It's a false belief that sign language is easier to learn than any other language... of course it depends on how well you pick things up and how hard you study, but it IS a language and it takes TIME and PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE... I've found (IMO) that it's easier for artistically inclined...

    I feel depressed.

It's never too late to learn another language... I know a professor in deaf studies who was completely oral for much of his life (he even prided himself on the fact that he was "above the Deaf" IHO) but then he discovered the beauty of ASL and the Deaf world and he took out his hearing aids and...

Looking for the best ASL software

Associating with the deaf is the BEST way to learn, you progress way faster than you would even imagine! Make a friend in the Deaf world and watch what happens, you'll talk to them for hours and learn SO many new things... it's a great (and fun) way to learn... way more entertaining than sitting...

    Sign Puns

This is funny, I was just discussing ASL 'puns' the other day. I don't know if these would be considered as puns, it's more just playing with signs, here's one that I know. Make the "I Love You" handshape and wave the index finger side-to-side = "Where is the love?"

Why do you want to be a interpreter?

Why would I become an interpreter? Because I can. If you can speak both languages very fluently why not become one (if you don't already have a good job).

For Hearing to answer only: I am deaf and want to know why

Being deaf in a largely hearing world, I'm sure you learn to except hearing people... but on the other hand hearing people don't come into contact with nearly as many (if any at all) deaf people. In the 19 years of my being alive I'd only met 1 deaf child when I was maybe 7 or 8 years old, it...
