I'd say go right ahead with it. My family gives each other gifts like this all the time.

Vlogs with captions for ASL students?

Hey hey! I'm HOH and studying ASL. I would like to watch more ASL videos for practice, and searching Youtube isn't very helpful. I'm not yet at the point of following a full-speed vlog without captions. Can anyone recommend some good captioned vlogs? Thanks in advance!

    HOH interpreters?

This may sound like a very ignorant question, but I figure it's worth asking: Is it possible for HOH people to become interpreters? If so, what kind of modifications are needed? I'm HOH myself, which is why I'm asking.

    New Signers' Funny Mistakes

A classmate meant to sign "I've been late to class a lot, but last week I was early." What she signed was "last week I was naked."

    Youtube gets AUTOMATIC CC videos

That reminds me of captioning when I was growing up in the 80s. It amazes me how much better it is now! But yeah, better captions with occasional mistakes than no captions at all.

Audism at its peak in deaf school

Hi Rockdrummer! Yes, you're right that teachers will need to discuss things that students shouldn't hear. We do that by keeping private conversations private -- not in the classroom or in the halls in front of students. We talk in the department office, or use email. My mom taught at an...

First Evaluation from Audiologist since years

Hello and welcome! About the hearing aids and what they look like -- I don't think there's anything more embarassing about hearing aids than glasses, but then again I've worn glasses since 5th grade :) They make some very nice-looking hearing aids, so you can ask about that. I really didn't...

Audism at its peak in deaf school

I'm going with how the original poster described the situation, which is that hearing people switch languages not because they're more comfortable in another language, but because they want to talk about others in their presence. I live in New York, and people switch languages all the time...

Audism at its peak in deaf school

I don't see this as a matter of depriving hearing people of the right to speak. It's about open access, and treating deaf faculty and students with respect. I work in a (hearing) school. Many of us are bilingual, but we don't all speak the same language. I would not switch into Russian to...
