It was a Transformer that stopped a man from boarding a plane! Jeez!

Gun T-shirt 'was a security risk'

A man wearing a T-shirt depicting a cartoon character holding a gun was stopped from boarding a flight by the security at Heathrow's Terminal 5.

Brad Jayakody, from Bayswater, central London, said he was "stumped" at the objection to his Transformers T-shirt.

Mr Jayakody said he had to change before boarding as security officers objected to the gun, held by the cartoon character.

Airport operator BAA said it was investigating the incident.

Mr Jayakody said the incident happened a few weeks ago, when he was challenged by an official during a pre-flight security check.

"He says, 'we won't be able to let you through because your T-shirt has got a gun on it'," Mr Jayakody said.

"I was like, 'What are you talking about?'.

"[The official's] supervisor comes over and goes 'sorry we can't let you through and you've a gun on your T-shirt'," he said.

Mr Jayakody said he had to strip and change his T-shirt there before he was allowed to board his flight.

"I was just looking for someone with a bit of common sense," he said.

"It's a cartoon robot - what threat is it to security or offensive to anyone at all?"

A BAA spokesman said there was no record of the incident and no "formal complaint" had been made.

"If a T-shirt had a rude word or a bomb on it, for example, a passenger may be asked to remove it," he said.

"We are investigating what happened to see if it came under this category.

"If it's offensive, we don't want other passengers upset."

I'll wear a t-shirt something like this to airport in USA, and see if they stopped me. If not, then London SUCKS!

Sheesh, What have they came to?

There's a fine line of wearing a shirt that is not acceptable in some places whereas in another place, it is acceptable. But, seriously, a transformer cartoon robot t-shirt is nothing as compared to having a real gun that is carried in an airport. It's not like the transformer robot would jump out of the t-shirt and go on a shooting spree.

I wonder who got through with dangerous concealed items while they harassed the guy with cartoon shirt.:dunno2:

Reason they afraid that the shirt might make passengers upset. Like I would upset by some kids' power ranger t-shirt. :D

How would it make someone upset when it is just a t-shirt? What about the ones that has offensive remarks on the t-shirts? That would still apply.

Yeah, I believe those lawyers created that idea to cover it up.

Whether it's the lawyers who created it or not - Still, there should be some common sense to come in play with this. The airport security should be focusing on bigger problems such as live weapons, bio-weapons, drugs and all those stuffs that applies to it.

If a T-shirt has a remark that says "I will hijack an airplane" then yeah, that'd be understandable but with a cartoon character that has a gun on it is no different.

Right, but they are still investigating. We have no idea what he did in public, which it caused the security to suspect his t-shirt as a threat.

Yes, as usual, the media tends to present one side of the story. However, it is pretty much clear that the guy who wore the t-shirt was as confused as he could be when the officials came to ask him to remove the t-shirt. From what it says, it seems that the guy was not retorting in a violent manner or putting any kind of danger to the public.

Maybe the transformer will come to life and kill people? You can never be too sure these days.

That's crazy, nothing wrong with that Transformer t-shirt. As there is no real gun on the Transformer t-shirt. I wonder what will Heathrow airport will come up next?.

"Red Ranger... GO!"

"Red? RED!? AHHHHH!" *runs off*

"Geez... what's his problem?"

"Apparently, he is erytophobic." ;)

It happen to several odd news on security thry airport. There is tattoo of gun and some security staff felt offense and decide to check on him.

One happen that who carry the just meal object hang around the man's neck which look like gun. But it doesn't function like real gun, yet the person end up by miss the flight and later end up by receive an apologize on poor guy. and more.. blah blah... More ridiculous continuos.

 ... a misdirected use of security personnel. Airports have gone too far with security measures and can sometimes go overboard but I guess they're adopting the adage of 'better safe than sorry'.
