it wouldn't happen to smell like raw sewage, would it?

could be a problem....

August i was thinking same thing....

pipe broke? could be water.. or sewage..

or just simple spring water??

here where i live... we have many springs.. hence why its called Springfield... every time it rained.. i see those springs overflowed... :)

It is not septic. Contractor and realtor told me that there somewhere well water or spring water in my property, *Farmer told them* so I could not find it for three years up to the present moment! However, not sure. I cannot to be closer to see it! I will do it this Monday because today will be rain, and tomorrow I will play softball game... :D Will keep update :):)

I would not drink it until you get a sample and have it tested.... it could still have contaminants even if it is a natural spring.

Not that I'm saying you would, don't take this the wrong way. :)

I just want to make sure because it is better to be safe than sorry.

3 years ago, when i was on vacation in Austria, my group was going for a morning bike ride through the glorious green countryside.

we made a rest stop at a natural spring and filled up our water bottles there. it was the most delicious, coldest, most refreshing *$!#ing drink of water i've ever had in all my days.

look like it was old well water that was used in 1800's from the way it was built for. wow.. thats awesome! :)

That is very very cool. Thank you for sharing those pictures with us.

There is a bit of Civil War history here where I am from (Waleska, Georgia).
During the Civil War an entire Yankee platoon disappeared right here in the Waleska area. The yankee platoon had killed two southern boys who were playing in the woods, and the townspeople took action.

The entire platoon disappeared in thin air and the townspeople wouldn't say what happened. They wouldn't talk.

Several years ago, their bodies were found in the bottom of the Farm wells all over this area.

I would cover it for now then later build a covered well you can draw water from like the old timer's - it would look cool on your property.

ought to raise the property value a bit, especially if you make it look nice.

better to use heavy metal something to cover for now.. thats what I have on the well water by my old house when kids cant lift it cuz it is HEAVY plus the wood cover can be swept off from the place and kids (like jessica Mcclure- the girl who was stuck in the well in Midland, Tx for 58 hours and need lot of surgeries- 15 to be exact) or animals could have fallen in... for their safety...

also, i would double check that your home isn't on an Indian burial ground. THE WATER MIGHT BE CURSED!

If it's in your backyard, should you worry about the foundation? Won't your house (or anything else) sink? If there's too much water in the soil, the ground could become unstable?
