I am not sure if this thread is in the correct order.

But you all know that I am from Australia. I have been seeing a lot of different technologies that deaf people have in the U.S and it makes me jealous (no offense, AD'ers).

The question is I have been wondering, if the VP AND VRS companies in the U.S would go international. Like for example. if a international person, for example myself from Australia would apply for a VP to keep in touch with american deaf friends? Just an idea for them to give it a think.

I would love to see some VP on my computer so I could use to chat with my american friends. They should release it internationally, so american friends who have friends overseas, for example myself, Liebling and other international people who knows ASL well.

And in alternative ways, I know there is other softwares to make it happen, like ooVoo, camfrog and other softwares that I am unaware of.

What do you reckon, AD'ers? Feel free to discuss here!

You can use video-phone in Australia, but it is not free to use. Not the worth unless you don't mind paying a lot of money per month. Here in the states, video-phone and video relay services for the deaf/hoh are funded for by federal taxpayers

I guess you should contact your national/federal deaf society (or other similar organisations) to ask about it.

As for VRS, it seems that VRS in Australia was made available for several years now?
"In the US and Australia, sign language relay services have already been made universally available at the same cost as a voice call.

Brian,

As far as I know, there is no VRS in AUstralia. ONLY video remote service -- it is similar to VRS but it is quite rare down here and it is not spreadly around in the AUS yet.

And thus far, we do have some VP's similar to these VP's you found in the source and similar to these Ojo VP's but unfortuntely, they are not cheap. One VP similar to Ojo costs us $400 each. Deaf Australia Inc is trying their best to be the same as U.S but the government is not listening.

JClarke, Awful goverement. Waste time to get Australia VRS. Some Canadian can use HOVRS to call any hearing person in Canada. I wonder that you try to join up HOVRS and LifelinksVRS. You can call any deaf person in using IP address.

Video Relay Services - VRS - Lifelinks!

I have some VRS webcam program like Hovrs, ViableVRS, and Lifelinksvrs, Sorenson VP and Snapvrs Ojo. but OJO was shut down last month because reason of financial problem.

You try it, too

I know, I hate it but we have a new prime minister, but I am thinking of writing them a letter to make them available for the deaf around australia but it is quite hard.

And I have already had a look on HOVRS website, and looked at registering in as a purple member but unfortunately, I can't. The reasons is , I don't live in U.S.A nor I don't have a proper VP here. I only have deaf friends in america, so, only wanted to see about VP's to contact via these, but not VRS. yet again, I would like to see some new VRS companies in AUS though.
