What's the buzz on Cloverfield?

Oh, I'm surprised to see Reba being curious about this particular monster flick. :)

Apparently the entire movie will be from a first-person perceptive via a handheld camcorder.

I think Cloverfield will bomb, as in be awful. I will be surprised if it is legitimately good. IMO the hype is too much, and is setting a lot of people up to be disappointed when they see it. Also, the entire film being done from a camcorder's view, sounds too much like the Blair Witch Project, with the camera really shaking constantly.

I like monster movies, although I prefer good ole' b&w or Harryhausen variety. :) New filming techniques also interest me.

Yeah, the concept is supposed to be first-person handheld perspective but some of the extended trailer footage seems to slip away from that once in a while. A little artistic license I suppose. ;)

With the handheld concept, I also love seeing how long batteries last, how there is more than adequate lighting, how shock waves, dirt and moisture don't mess up cameras, and what kind of product placement tie-ins will pop up.

I'm curious if anyone has more of the synopsis or backstory that explains the nature of the creature? It all seems so "hush-hush" right now.

yeah it sounds good...........not too garden variety monster flickish

Reba... a fan of monster movies? Wow.

Well, the plot is basically about a giant monster that attacks New York City. The first-person perceptive (camcorder view) is supposedly "recovered" by the U.S. government and is kept top secret.

"Five young New Yorkers throw their friend a going-away party the night that a monster the size of a skyscraper descends upon the city. Told from the point of view of their video camera, the film is a document of their attempt to survive the most surreal, horrifying event of their lives."

They're still being secretive on it.

Spoilers are on the internet. Some people have seen advance screenings, and it seems it is allright, and nothing great.

Yeah, though they did release a sketch of it a while ago. I wouldn't post it here though since I wouldn't want Alex's ass to get frayed by Paramount's overpaid lawyers.

Blair Witch isn't bad but the problem with this movie is that it take way too long to get to climax part. Blair Witch need do better at editing job.

I just got back from the local theatre. Yes, I saw the movie. To tell you the truth, I actually enjoyed it. May be just a one-time thing though. It's rather short, and um...

The monster shown in the picture above, I would say it does resemble the monster used in the movie in some ways but not entirely. They must had modified that sketch because it had longer legs and its back is different from what I remember. It's more curved.

Anyway, this movie is not suitable for young children.
