From what I could hear on the news (mom wouldnt turn on CC) Some students at ASD wanted needed items such as coats and shoes for Christmas, so some people made the donations for those items and other gifts to ASD whose families may or may not be able to afford them gifts for Christmas.

Im waiting for the video to come on THVs website and someone hearing (or better hearing than I) can do a quick transcript. they did show a few younger students from ASD and a couple of older people. Perhaps you may know them FC.

I keep telling myself I am going to go visit ASD someday but I never do. Maybe me and you can go one day when Ive got my new truck and we can take the kids along.

Here is the link for the newstory on THVs website:
Today's THV - KTHV Little Rock News Article

Im very glad that local buisnesses are there and willing to help people in need, especially the deaf students in need since they are often overlooked seems like.

Thanks for that link, Dixie. This is a wonderful, uplifting story for Christmas. These kids will not only have a great Christmas, they will learn valuable lessons in caring and empathy for others.

That's really cool! It is really amazing how the kids really see the importance in practical items

Yes!!! I do know Flint Fears and his daugther Maddie.. he's one of my buddies who i went to school with. I dont know who Angel is.. never seen her before but the story touch my heart. :) Thanks for sharing that with us...

Yes sure I would be glad to go with you and show you my old school! hehe! School had changed so much since I was there 16 yrs ago.. dang! lol..

Flint? I thought his name was Chris???? Maybe I mis-read the THV site? Either way - when I get my truck, Im going to email you and we can set up a date. Surely in a Ford Explorer Sport Trac everyone can fit nicely, plus I think I'd look hott in that truck, :afro:

Well to turn on the CC its a wierd process with our TV. You have to hit TV, then MENU, then scroll over to CC settings, set it to the correct CC, the you have to scroll through the rest of the menu and wait 30 secs for the CC to kick in, by that time the segment for the Deaf School would have ended. Very aggrevating sometimes, but I deal with it.

I just wished with these universal remotes that they would come out with one that just had a plain jane CC button on it. Click CC and CC magically appears! (oh what a concept! Id make millions if I could get a patent for that!)

My tv remote already have that button (it is labeled "display"). The tv is
Sony and it is several years old - maybe 10 years old. That button has 4 different settings - one to turn display off, second one to leave the channel number on in the upper right corner, third one is XDS which works on some channels and it would tell me what network/channel it is and what show it is showing now, and finally the fourth one is CC. The XDS is the only one I have to pause for it to kick in.

School districts can afford to build stadiums, have fund raisers of all sorts for their precious teams, yet the state, who actually pays for the stadiums anyway, can't "find" the money for these kids?! There's a problem here, Dixie!

Hey, I have an idea, Dixie. After I get my law degree, what say you drive me around in your new sport trac and help me run for public office down there? I'll gladly move down and get these kids some help, even if I have to sue everyone and every district in the state. Hey jillio, are you in with me on this, too?

 I agree with you pek - but your post is making me laugh, lol.

If I could I would love to start a foundation that gives to the students at ASD who may not have alot of money for expenses such as travel expenses to and from home, appropriate clothes for each season, school supplies, etc.

I think would be really nice is to offer an annual scholarship to a student of ASD to attend any 4-year university in state.

While ASD is a residential school it is however a state run school and any child from anywhere in the state who is deaf and their local district does not have the proper support service is eligible to attend.
