Today (Sunday!!!) a rep from SVR stopped by the house and I never knew he was even coming or recieve any emails or information that a rep was stopping by. It was totally unexpected.

I travel for my work so I arrived home about 6am and he stopped by about 11am while I was sleeping today and even on a Sunday heh and cut my sleep short when he came to the door.

Well the SVR rep wanted to know if I have problem with my VP and I said no I did not have problem with VP and he wanted to know why I am not using it to make relay calls and I said becasue I travel a lot for my work and rarely home so I use my mobile phone AIM relay often.

The SVR rep told me to use VP-100 more often so I have a better chance to get VP-200. I told him I really not care about VP-200 and I am not in a hurry to get one.

I do use SVR maybe once a month when I am home and it quicker to call a family member using it or get movie time from movie theatre recording.

Anyway the rep tested VP and ask what modem I use etc and ask me to make a call to hearing person so I called a hearing person to show him that I know how to use SVR then he called another rep (seem like his boss) so other rep question me why I am not using SVR etc and if everything alright with VP and I said everything fine I am rarely at home I use my mobile phone a lot then he start telling me that SVR have AIM relay too "siprelay".

I won't be using siprelay becasue I am using MY IP Relay which I greatly depend on since they provide me my own private phone number for hearing people to call me for my work.

I think it cool for them to check up on folks that haven't been using VP to make sure it working or not broken but I think SVR was using it as an "excuse" to see why we are not using SVR service or to check we are using other VRelay services instead of SVR service because I saw the rep was snooping on my VP phone listing which I am sure he is checking to see if there are other VRelay service number listed in there (I have no other Vrelay number in there).

It was a very poor practice for them to make an unexpected announcement to my home and worse that it is on a Sunday so I suggest SVR change their practice and first contact the folks on VP or email to make an appointment to stop by their home.

All my information that SVR have ie. my name and my phone number and my email was still all same but they have not make any effort to contact me first before coming out.

The SVR rep was nice and friendly to me but still disturbing my sleep and unexpected visit is not so nice!

interesting, for them to be doing this!!!! Here in Hawaii we get notified within a week in advance cuz some people are usually out of the house or out of town that week, so when they check to see the availability for the consumers we usually tell them our best time and to let them know what time is best for them to come and to ask them for confirmation if they are coming that day so we can prep for the day ie; clean the house and get the place tidy up and make sure everything is accessible for our tech to use at any given time. For example. Mine contacted me 2 weeks prior to arriving when my vp was down he informed me he was going to be on our island for the weekend on that date and would i mind he coming to fix my vp and etc ( couldn't get any incoming calls but out going was fine ) So he made arrangements and then 4 days prior to his coming he asked me time and etc for him to come and i said after 11 am and just to honk the horn so i can move my dogs out of the way and not have them jumping up and down and bothering the tech. he came fixed it in less than 30 mins and then asked for better directions to a customer's place cuz the place didn't have a street sign nor was it in a safe place so i told him to move his car and bring his stuff and i would drive him there as the roads very ROCKY for him to drive his rental on it. i drove him then let him handle his business while i stayed outside then he completed the job and fixed all the work. then came out and we went back to my place and he said thanks for making the accommodation i had no plm cuz i didn't want a vp tech to get stuck and it would be a bit embarrassing, So he went to the next assignment and i was done. So for you to go thru that THEY shld have contacted you, u can file a complaint informing them that u work all hours and a common curesty would be to contact before coming and distrupting your sleep.

All in all no one shld tell u how to use anything if your using it for immediate family so be it, if ur using it for other certain reason so be it, no one shld be invading anyones privacy based on lack of usage.

Thanks for sharing :)

I don't like the sound of this!!! I think it's wrong for them to do that as what if they don't belong to SVR, could be anyone... I think you need to report to the upper management that this is unethical work practice on their part. They don't have no business checking to see why you don't use it, simple an email will be suitable... I find this pretty strange!!!! I wouldn't even let them in period even though they probably didn't have their employee id card or SVR shirt (which anyone probably can make a copy of it)!!!

be careful out there you all.... anything just to get into your house... be wise and smart... if it was so important they can come back later.

take care..

I would tell them to send me email or call me on vp to set up an appt. I dont need their lame excuse to come up to my house. I dont care if they have travel too far out. Not my problem.

I don't use my Sorenson Videophone much. I just don't have anyone else to talk with on it.

My mother and grandmother have tried to get me to use the videophone rather than TTY, because they have found videophone to be more quicker.

update: i just got an email last night from my vp tech whos coming to give me a new vp 200 and he asked me the best time for him to come and gave me a date he was aiming for now thats what i call respect! so i told him lemme know which date for sure and time so i can make sure i had some time blocked for him only so that's real helpful! :-D wished ur guy was like that

Sorenson didn't like it when the FCC said they couldn't require a certain amount of relay calls to keep the VP. Is this some new way to scare people into using their VRS more? Hmm.

When I got 100vp then I used lots with VP relay service then they re come back and switch to be 200vp because I am use relay lots so Yes that They do check on phone lists too. :):) If we use lots with relay and Then Government or other will donating and keep Vp open! :):)

I can only imagine that Sorenson had some kind of business policy to have their installers follow up on clients that clearly have not used their VP-100/200 as often as they'd like them to. Sorenson is probably implementing this kind of approach due to some customers':

* Equipment possibly being out of order perhaps due to faulty equipment
* Insufficient knowledge on how to use the system/fix settings, etc
* Simple lack of need to make calls
* Clients using competing VRS vendors

I understand Sorenson's business rationale for this practice, which is likely attributed to their desire to ensure that their capital investments (i.e., videophones) have a certain ROI (Return on Investment) ratio. Following up on customers who may have not made calls due to broken equipment, improper settings on router, etc is a great way to ensure they capture some of the latent cash potential being untapped, especially after the FCC came down hard on them with that Interoperatiblity Ruling last May of 2006. After all, Sorenson is the reason why that ruling was made. BTW, I do not work for Sorenson, but am a happy VP-200 and OJO user.

It's probably true that VP-100 users that are making enough SVRS calls are being prioritized for a VP-200 replacement. I have Deaf friends who got a VP-100 before I did, but I got VP-200 before them because I was told by the installer that I made enough calls to justify the swap from the 100 to the 200.

So, if you want a VP-200, make more calls and show SVRS that you are worth their time :ty:

It seem that the SVRS rep was here earlier while I was out of town.

My neighbor whom been collecting newpaper and mails for me while I am gone out town and I went to get them today that he took a notice from SVRS off my door that stating a SVRS was by on this time and date etc etc to check on VP etc and it put it on the pile of my mail and newpaper.

The notice is like hard cardboard that look like motel Do not Disturb sign which latches on the door handle.

SVRS rep never told me he was here earlier and I didn't see that notice until now. But rep would have save himself the trouble of driving about 4 hours if he had email or call me ahead to set up a time to come here. He was lucky I was in a good enough mood to let him in the house Sunday instead of telling him to set up a time at a later date after disburbing my sleep and it would been another 8 hour drive for him again.

SVRS sucks man. Like I explained in another treads the VRS intreprters kept complaining that my finace is dark skin and hard to see while we had 3 lights in front of us... I had to cover them with shades because light is hurting our eyes if I unshade them. This is why we need VP200 badly but they wont unless we use relay alots then they will give VP200 to us. That's crap!! Now we are looking forward for SnapVRS. I just learned that SnapVRS will give you free VP called Ojo. But it is required for you to have VP100 or VP200 then they will give you Ojo. Geez crazy.

You don't need to have a VP100 or VP200 first. You can apply directly for an Ojo. That's what I did.

same probelm for ojo phone and dark skin people

Just heard a deaf newlywed couple trying to concieve their first baby were given a 'coitus interruptus' visit by a Sorenson installer. Sorenson can do a lot better than this.

It's their fault if they didn't put the "do not distrub" sign on the doornob. :P

I see this as pretty much nothing but intimidation by SVS because if you don't use your VRS often, they don't get paid, simple as that.

Maybe Sorenson's learning to request appointments instead of doing unannounced visits. That's a good thing!
