Deaf like you

definitely will :D

i'm curious - are you'd rather to be author or reader?

Good question, Mann - I am a reader myself, but I'd like to be an author, I would like to write a small book about myself being deaf and being discrimiated few years ago.

I could start a thread in alldeaf.com for a start to discuss about the discrimiation rights? Mind me asking, I am curious too, as you metioned above, that you are a pro-author, have you written anything specifically like as in a book?

I think you should create a thread in general chat. I'm not sure, ask mods first. I'm still new member to AllDeaf.com, through.. but, if it's about writing, I think it'd to be in this same topic, "Creative writing". :shrugs: just ask mods, not me. ^^;;

Oh, no. i dont publish any book yet. ^^;;
I am still working on my own books and poems in my laptop. But you can check it out at this topic thread, "Creative Writing", because i did update a few chapters and a few poems in here. :):) I also updated a few stories & poems in the FictionPress, FictionPress.Com : Profile : SlyCougar05.

It is now in the "Deaf education" thread as it is related to deaf education by all means. :D

Now up to four....four writers thus far...

I still never forget that book, it was a great read. I am glad you brought it up! Or otherwise no one would mention it. It is great for parents who have deaf children. But to me, it is unnecessary because of where I came from and the way I was raise and taught differently. My parents did the best choice for me. I felt great after giving a friend of mine that book. She loves it. She is still learning to raise her deaf child by herself. Yes she is a one parent of that beautiful little deaf girl. Like I mentioned before everyone has their own story...

Hear, hear! Deaf people can read for their interests. I won't forget the book too.. I can recommend it to anyone who is the parents of a deaf child, the book can help ease their worries, and other things. They could follow some few advice from the book - It is a fantastic book and I am happy that I bought it up :D

Yes I have read "Deaf like me" a long, long time ago. It was a very good book. I still remember the girl's name in that book and I even remember what the book cover looked like. I gave to a friend that it may help her since she had a deaf child.

Yes, it should be required reading for all hearing parents of deaf children.

Absolutely. The way for it to be told should be through the words of those who have lived it. I just wonder if the hearing parents would listen anymore thatn they seem to currently.

I think this book should produce in Australia and the hearing people have more understanding in deaf culture, perhaps?

It depends on hearing parents. Some parents would do what the best for their deaf children and some parents would have known nothing and do nothing until too late. Many hearing parents are different and does differently, like I said it depends.
Like mine for one, my parents would work so hard to find the best doctor and get the right hearing aide, a speech thepary at age 2 that was an hour away, after they learned I was deaf, they found the best school they could find even that was another an hour away--what choice did they have? If they hear the school is closed, they would move from Heaven to Earth to find me a school where they have a special class for the deaf. They would rather lose their dream house and move into another area so I could go a deaf school. They would work hard as they knew how and I would have to tell them it was unnecessary as I grew older, but it showed they do care and wanted the best for me. They have listened to me and my feelings about the two different worlds. The more my parents learn about me, they found a right choice for me to meet my needs so I attended a regular high school where there was no interupter or any special classes. They made the right choice because it was who I am and the way I was raised. They always ask me what I wanted first. They never pushed me into anything I don't want to. They always accept the way I am and they were always proud to have a deaf daughter.

:ty: I will tell them. My mom would ask me what was like to be so silent. If she hears there was a deaf actor, or a deaf Miss America, she would come rushing to me and let me know. She would ask me if it was true and if that was how I felt to be deaf. She always wanted to learn and still...She never hestate. She was so proud of them, as much she was proud of me. She is a wonderful woman to be with.
Not just hearing parents, that includes hearing teachers for the deaf. Don't be afraid to ask a deaf child/children what is like to be deaf, how they feel about it, and what they wanted in life. You will get the idea and share their world. Don't listen others before your deaf child/children. Your deaf child/children always comes first...if they need help, they will come forward and rely on you, don't push them too hard.
