How odd....sorry I'm not a math whiz, good luck with that.

Well, now that some of you explained the "mystery", it is not bizarre any more.

your is basic mode with little advanced in there while my treo have two mode: basic and advanced. :)
There is no advance or basic mode. It just allows me to type in the full math problem before solving.

Any calculator that lets you put in the whole problem before processing will give you 7. Any calculator that only processes each step will give you 9.

A TI-81 calculator lets you type in the whole problem before processing. That will give you 7.

The calculator on the computer "advanced" or "basic" will still give me 9 because it only processes each step instead of the whole problem.

Yeah, I learned my lesson the hard way.

My algebra teacher told us that we had to multiply/divide before we add/subtract. I breezed through my next few homework assignments using a calculator that processes each step and ended up with mostly wrong answers. After the teacher pointed out that calculators don't do it the way we want to, I learned my lesson and did it by hand. Heh! (This was 1989.)

well standard calculator generally do not follow the rule, if you got fancy calculator like Ti-83 then you will get accurate answer.

yeah, I do aware of rule but I find is odd on vary calculator that different answer.

so, you carry both sidekick and Ti-81? I just carry only treo, as it got advanced calculator, much as Ti-81? woof woof.

Why carry both? My Sidekick does the same math as my TI-83. I lost my TI-83 somewhere in storage years ago. :dunno:

How about this for weird math....

Solve X = 2Y

2X = 4Y
7X - 5X = 14Y - 10Y
10Y - 5X = 14Y - 7X
5 (2Y-X) = 7 (2Y-X)

5 = 7

Solve X = 2Y

2X = 4Y
7X - 5X = 14Y - 10Y
10Y - 5X = 14Y - 7X
5 (2Y-X) = 7 (2Y-X)

5 = 7
Try this...

a = b
a + a = a + b
2a = a + b
2a - 2b = a + b - 2b
2(a - b) = a + b - 2b
2(a - b) = a - b
2 = 1

I like it...
But be careful, the universe will collapse within the next day or so if we keep on going like this...

Hahaha Well, my vote is 7 but--- I am not god at that math. *blushing*
