I have been doing my research for pre-paid cellular phones and I have actually come across something very nice. This is similar to the TAP plan that AT&T/Cingular have.

For $69.99 a month on the Alltell U Prepaid cell phone plan you get the following:

  • 700 Anytime minutes
  • Unlimited night and weekend minutes
  • Unlimited Text messaging
  • Unlimited mobile-to-mobile
  • Additional minutes 10 cents each.

This is on the Alltell U Pre-paid Cell phone plans under the Pay-per-month plans.

They allow you to choose from an array of phones although they have only one QWERTY phone available under this plan. No contracts, no credit checks, if you have kept the phone paid up for six continous months, then you become eligible for a contract phone with your choice of better QWERTY phones.

I think this may be the way to go for me since Go Phones are a scam. Alltell charges you straight up. Once youve used your minutes your done until you put more money on your account.

There is also a $35.00 activation fee.
 
Alltel has what I would call a pretty good deal for the deaf/hard-of-hearing but 70 dollars-per-month seems a bit too much.

I would have checked out Alltel but they only have coverage in Southern Georgia and parts of Atlanta's farther southern suburbs, which is a little odd with Alltel's regional headquarters located in Atlanta's northern suburbs.

Should you decide to get on with Alltel, be sure to find out about their roaming charges. The reason I have brought this up is that Alltel has some agreement on roaming with VerizonWireless (they are known to charge its subscribers for roaming).

Rip off for deafie. All deafie need is a Data plan w/o voice OR replace voice w/ Text (AT&T Rep told me it can be done). Either Unlimit Text or 5000 Text a month. Or 300 Text w/ carry over each month would suit fine.

Alltel, Forget it! It's too much for every deafie! Remmy that not all deaf have decent good paying jobs!! Unless Govt force companies to provide decent wages for deafie to make a good living, then would have good chance to pay that much.

Hey Dixie, I did a bit research on Altell and found something I think is worth to check out.

They do have a special plan for the deaf/hard-of-hearing that is similar to AT&T's TAP plan called Altell Disability Access. They don't have info on how much it would cost, but I imagine it would be somewhere 30 dollars cheaper than their U Prepaid ones.

There is another one called Alltel Lifeline & Linkup. I don't know if this will work for the deaf/hard-of-hearing.

I think it kinda too high even for a voice plan and are you plan on using the phone to make voice calls?

Also I don't see any data plan on your list so your not going to use data at all? I think data is a must for relay calls since data Messagener is so much faster than SMS Messenger .
ie AIM via data = faster AIM via SMS = slower

I recall you posted that you live in rural area and Alltell are known to have a pretty good coverage in rural area over any carrier but if you are not going to use voice at all then I would still try check on the AT&T or Sprint coverage in your area or find someone that actually use those carrier in your area and questioin them becasue with AT&T TAP plan or Sprint Wireless Relay Plan you will be saving a bundle of money worry-free too.

For a voice only plan and unlimited text that if you even don't use voice minutes then it sort of wasting money there and the price is a bit steep compare to other plan prices.

only alltel and at&t have the networks in her rural area, however alltel has more strong signals in the rural areas than at&t i believe.

dixie, you can try at&t's service. if it doesnt work well in your rural area, you can take it back within 30 days. it is up to you.
 
It is a little steep but it is identical to what I was paying on my Cingular phone back when I was still able to hear fairly well.
