I made a post in "Microsoft: No more Keyboards!" regarding about Table Top PC and CC issue (on 2nd page of posting). Concerning about RFID (radio fequency idenfication) They are like a wireless "magic wand" and commonly used for store inventories, security check, open doors in secure location, ect.. It doesn't need battery inside card to operate. Powered by external device that send power signal to power the RFID and it sends code back to device to decode RFID signal..
RFID on Credit card is new year ago... You probably have seen commercial of Marathon runner running into the store to get drink and waved CC by the "black box" situated on Casher table to charge his account then ran back into the marathon. It doesn't use magnetic strip to ring it. It send CC ID wirelessly just FEW INCHES to "black box".
Right now we are approaching "cashless" society in the future. Today, Credit card can be charge without signature if it is less than $10 or $20. Identity Theft are becoming common. Anyone can steal ur CC and charge anything not needing signature. I rang my wife's ATM checkcard as credit on cashier cc machine without signature (I borrowed her ATM checkcard suppose to w/d cash at bank ATM). I told her I goofed on that but got the item. Funny tho. Cashier NEVER bother to check ID!!! I would say about 99% of Cashier I've encountered never ask for ID.. I give a cheers those of 1% who check my ID!
The RFID can be easily stolen by hacker using PDA and software and hardware to receive ID from RFID CC. They can just simply sit next to you like Airport, Restaruant ect. as long they are just less than 10 inches away (only if they good reciever that detect weak signal). It can be extracted less than 15 second!!. I would not recommend anyone to have RFID CC.
Currently, Gas Station offer RFID gas CC in some state. Hackers successfully using stolen RFID to charge gas on user's account.
Those who prefer sticking with RFID CC cuz ease of use and quick to ring, There are ways to foil hackers by wrap it with foil or ferrite plate. But if you lose it, it'll be like any stolen cc. It would be hassle to call every CC company to stop ur acct and block payment made from others.
It may seem easy life in a hurry but It can make or break you.
Good Luck
