Shoshannah Stern, along with her brother and sister, represents the fourth
generation of a deaf family. She grew up in Fremont, California, attending
the California School for the Deaf, where her parents worked and her two
siblings also attended.

Stern attended Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C., the only liberal
arts university for deaf people in the world. There she pursued her love of
theater, winning numerous awards for her performances. During the winter
recess of her senior year at Gallaudet, she was asked to audition for a
guest-starring role in the series "Off Centre." She flew to Los Angeles and
subsequently won the role. This led to guest-starring roles in "Providence,"
"Boston Public," "ER," and "The Division." With her recurring role on
"Weeds" and lead role in JERICHO, Stern currently holds the distinction of
being the only deaf actor in history to have significant roles in two
primetime television series during the same season.

On the stage, Stern originated the role of Susan in "Open Window" at the
Pasadena Playhouse. Her feature film credits include "The Last Shot."

Stern was born in Walnut Creek, California. Her birth date is July 3.

Is she going to be main character or just a small role in this show ?
 
wow i did not know and read that few days ago. I was going to post new thread but JohnnyE got first. Will not miss this. :ty:

the show will tell us how is she up to if main or small roll i dont know?
 
I watched the episode, the show isn't too shabby so far for a pilot. Though I do wonder how they are going to keep this one going.

The role of the deaf woman, she wasn't given much to do in the pilot but I suspect they'll give her more to do in the upcoming episodes. After all, it's just the pilot.

Basically, I get the feeling this is going to use the same formula from the TV series, Lost. I wouldn't be surprised if each episode was only a day or two apart.

This show has potential to be a hit, or a critical flop. You never know. A great show can flop on the boob tube and be a big seller on the DVD format.

I'll be watching next week's episode.
 
I have been told that the show will air again tonight if you missed the first one the other day.

Her part in the pilot episode was very brief. I think she's supposed to use sign but I don't know if she will also be oral. Her "brother" signed a couple things to her, that's all. I hope her role will be expanded in future episodes.

There was one scene where her "brother" was supposed to be "interpreting" what was being played on a taped conversation from an answering machine. I couldn't see the two of them during the entire scene (they weren't on camera the whole time). It was a dramatic scene, and by the reactions of the hearing people it was obvious to her that something important was happening, but I don't know if her "brother" conveyed the entire message to her. She looked worried and confused. That bothered me. Maybe we're supposed to assume that her brother gave her the rest of the story off-camera. :dunno:
 
I watched it tonight and she did not use any sign. another character signed to her that the two men were not cops and that they needed to escape. but it is so far a good show. It should be a good show.

Yes, so far, the hearing people do more signing than the deafie! She speaks and lipreads.

It is a good show. My stomach ties in knots while I watch it. Wow, every time that guy's hand reached for another red pin, I felt like GULP!
