I believe the human psyche is weak and predictable, and I also believe human beings are on a path that is perpetually dangerous. Humanity can be broken down into 3 tiers:

1. Sex
2. Violence
3. Survival

These are the basic foundations of the human condition, but popular opinion would lead us to believe otherwise. I despise turning on the television and being bombarded with the primitive ignorance that takes place all over the world. No land escapes this diminutive cycle, because humans are everywhere.

Seeing it’s the year 2006 and people still die over religion, it’s clear that time wont save humanity. If anything, time is leading to our indefinite destruction… and I’m positive it will be self-induced. I often wish I could live in a vortex where my life couldn’t be affected by the actions of others, or I was born a naïve participant in our planets downward spiral – but this is not the case.

Please excuse my venting.

Interesting topic. I somewhat agree and disagree with your thesis. Humanity is not 3 tiers, but 2, in my opinion. I believe sex, violence, and survival are all part of instinct, the first tier of humanity; the second being our ability to rationalize, which is what makes separates us from animals. The human pysche, as you stated, is weak overall. That is not to say there aren't exceptions.

If you believe man is leading to its own destruction, then that would go against one of your proclaimed tiers of humanity: survival. Civilization has always found ways to go on. There's been downfalls and uprisings since the dawn of time, yet life continues. I do think western civilization is on the decline, as we're are so unaware of the problems plaguing our society. It's as simple as look beyond yourself, but we don't, therefore we're doomed.

I don’t believe humans are different from animals. That will have to due as my argument for now, because I’m not much for elaborating what I’ve said. I was just in the mood for spilling out some of the thoughts in my mind. Perhaps when I’ve accumulated all my thoughts and written this all down to a point I’m secure with it I’ll pm it to you and we can continue from there.

Sure thing. I know the feeling. Over the course of a day, a million thoughts will pass through my head, and when it comes time to express those thoughts, I turn towards apathy. I look forward to your PM.

THERE DO SEEM TO BE PEOPLE..I TRY TO BE ONE OF THEM..WHO REFUSE TO TOE THE LINE..IE ,WATCH VERY LITTLE TV,HAVE A FREE THINKING MIND AS OPPOSED TO A PROPAGANDA FILLED ONE,LIVE A HEALTHY AND NATURAL LIFESTYLE..LOVE ..RATHER THAN CARRY ANGER AND HATE..AND I CHOOSE HOW I WANT TO LIVE..AND TRY TO PASS ONT THE SAME PHILOSOPHY TO MY CHILDREN...TO BE FREE IS FREE
TO BE AN ADVERT CONNED..MATERIAL TRAPPED CLONE IS EXPENSIVE TOO:cool:

Human nature is rarely nice, in my opinion. There are more people who want to serve themselves rather than others, and given the chance, people will pick the easy way out.
Or maybe I'm being cynical?

You're cynical, but you're not wrong. Human nature is to serve itself above all, first.

There is a book out called "Selfish Gene" I think that is the title. I have not read the book but have read some of its text taken from the book. It talks about man being born to be selfish as a survival trait and that selfishness is from DNA makeup. We naturally look out for ourselves in all kinds of ways from job status, having bigger house than jones next door to fighting over food to avoid staving to death. It is not idealistic view of man.

But it's very true, unfortunately. I think individuals are better than the group generally--groups tend to have a mob mentality.

As for those who say God created us as good, I'll say that S/He also gave us free will. We can choose good or evil, but being good is more difficult...
