Increasingly, Bush Escapes the Media Pack

The idea that Bush could travel across the country without a full contingent of reporters, especially in the middle of a war, highlights a major cultural shift in the presidency and the news media. In the four decades since the assassination of John F. Kennedy, presidents traditionally have taken journalists with them wherever they traveled on the theory that when it comes to the most powerful leader on the planet, anything can happen at any time

no, the secret services travels with him keeping media out, they are Bush's friends. *shrug*

Er...Not sure what the big ado is about...

I take very little stock in the general media itself. It has its own agenda that is not necessarily that of the country's. Get things wrong or tries to determine what is important when that is not its role.

I can't blame the current president and I'm quite sure that many of the previous presidents didn't care for them either (and were selective of them too). The media has nobody to blame but itself....

As for the Secret Service, at least get your facts straight. Where the president is concerned, they have one supreme overriding job...protect the president period. Nothing else matters in that department. If the president goes here or there and with or without the media, that is not the Secret Service's problem. All they need to worry about is protecting POTUS.

maybe Bush is on target easy if media been announcement on plan to travel somewhere...

Bush is probably doing this on purpose to avoid embarassment when he makes embarassing mistakes during his public appearances. ;)
