I have noticed that several, not alot, but not a little either, of interpreters are gay and with a deaf person or whtever.. Or sometime interpreter is gay and single.. I have had about 3 or 4 interperter who intepret for me whom was gay/lesbian.

Also another thing i noticed.. when i see a realllllly hot boy or sooo cute or whatever, it ends up they are gay.

Haha, I want to work as a terp, and I am bi. I also noticed that many of the non Deafies interested in ASL are gay or bi. In my ASL 101 class, I was the only guy out of 25 people in the class. In my ASL 102 class, there was one other guy, and I dont think he was straight.... :laugh2:

I went to a lecture at UMass last year, and found out that Leslie Fineberg, author of Stone Butch Blues(she's a stone butch....looks and dresses like a guy) used to be a terp.

Oh, and darkangel....that always happens to me......the guys I like all end up being gay! I have no luck with guys!

I have had my share of gay and lesbian interpreters.

Once, I used to have an interpreter who was so feminine, he even knitted scarves when I was working or something. It was really funny. He had a ponytail.

One interpreter I had, was older, but very hot-looking guy. It was always a pleasure to have him interpret for me cos he was such a pleasing person to look at. I know that sounds shallow! Heh

I work as an ASL lab tutor, and here in Utah, I don't see many male students making it into ITP. A male student who is in ITP is gay, and used to have a thing for me until I made it clear that I had my boyfriend, etc... bla bla bla.

As for me, I admire many men and they turn out to be straight! Dammit! Why me?! LOL

ohhh interesting deafdyke! i too never knew that! I've read her book as well!

ive had a few gay male terps over the years -- theyre not as common as i seem to often get the female terps -- theres a terp we really LIKE for her skills here and shes family (we often try to get her first if it turns out shes unavailable we would go for the next terp thats alright in our book) -- seems to me that the gay/lesbian terps generally tend to be better terps than the straight terps (trying not to be sounding so stereotypical but ahh this is based on my observations over the years)

Coming from a straight person like me, I've been saying that for years, too!

I think we should be darned thankful that we HAVE interpreters, period.

They are doing something great for the deaf and their personal life is none of our business.

yes and it doesn't matter on the basis of race or sexual preference.

LOL i dont blamecha -- some stones would prefer to be referred to as "he" "him" while others would prefer to be referred to as "hy" "hym" -- my best guess it depends on their own preferences and whether theyre on T or not

u are sooo LUCKY to have met Leslie Feinberg tho!!! i know i would have loved to attend the lecture as well and to meet him/hym!!!!! i know i definately would be armed with MY copy of stone butch blues ;)

I had a gay interpreter at High School....

and the boy in my class poke fun of that gay interpreter....

everytime the boy laughed, those whole classmates laugh too.

All because the gay interpreter walked funny, talked funny, and act more
like a girl.

I don't know why I laughed... but I know that gay interpreter at
my High School was hurting so bad....

And everybody hated that boy, because that boy was a Bully,
he even picked on me because of my disfigured face.

I don't know why nobody stood up to that boy who was a Bully.
I don't know why we all laughed every time the boy bullied someone.

But all I know was last time I heard of that boy, he was selling drugs.
And I don't know if he is in prison or have a successful job or something.
