Some of you think written language comes first, actually your funny!

When a baby born, in their earliest days of life...Can they understand whats written on book before they even talk verbally or sign? The answer is too obviously.

Think about it.

I was signing far before before I wrote or spoke. A whole different language right there.

Communication involves two basic activities, it is called speaking, and listening. What else?
It's called expressive and receptive, not speaking and listening.

Looking for Jeremy Peterson, my son

Hello. I am looking for Jeremy Peterson. He and his wife, Brandi, moved to Colorado 7 or 8 years ago. We lost contact and I am desperately trying to get in touch with him. I just want to know that he is safe and alive. If you have any information or can get in touch with Jeremy or Brandi Peterson, please tell them Amy is desperately trying to reach them.

Audiofuzzy, and other HOH/latened Deaf here is a question, do you want lose your hearing?

Simple answer is sufficient and I only expect either Y or N from you and other HOH members here.

I DID lost my hearing, long time ago.

Communication involves two basic activities, it is called speaking, and listening. What else? Maybe you don't know, animals DO vocal, body language communicate with other animals. It has been proven over and over again. When it comes to reading, one writes, and other read them.

Like I said earlier, ASL is one of most misunderstood language, it IS in fact a spoken language because there are listener out there listening to what one has to speak.

Do you move your mouth and use full, well exercised well modulated voice to form fully, clearly pronounced words? no? then it is NOT a spoken language, period.

Just stop it, Diehardbiker, okay? do no not try convince everyone sky is red, the sun is black, the earth is flat, the moon is square and so on.
it just isn't so, the sky is blue, the sun is yellow, the earth is round, the moon silver and so is the ASL an visual language AND it's alright!, and it's fine.
It is no less of a strong, beautiful language by no means - can you just accept that and be proud?

Fuzzy

ASL is not a SPOKEN language. It is a VISUAL language.

Maybe you smoked too much... ahem? :eek3:

says a person who believes ASL is a spoken language.

yes. perhaps you should re-read my post carefully again....

a written language came first. how? by symbol and drawing. remember? cavemen?

a baby can learn and communicate via written/visual language first before spoken language. symbol. picture. sign language.

Think about it.
yes I have. have you?

Why are you oppressing yourself? My question with one request that answer is either Y or N, and you failed to honor my request by failing to say yes or no.

I asked whether you wanted to lose your hearing, I am NOT in any way ask when did you lose your hearing.

I DID lost my hearing, long time ago.

Wow, just wow that many of you are still in very deep audism! Quit obsessing about audism!

I don't think of audism, and you guys ignored the very fact on ASL as one of most misunderstood language.

Psst, I learn bunch of em at RIT/NTID on Deafness, ASL, and other Deaf related topics. That is where I learn, before that, I thought much same way you have thought too.

Quit obsesses on Audism, your eyes will open up!

Its sad that you guys continues oppressing yourself on Deafness.

Would you guys agree that since ASL is not spoken language as you claimed, therefore the 1st Amendment does not apply Deaf person as sole ASL user right in exercise Free speech because it (ASL) does not include sounds, mouth movement thus there is no rights available for Deaf person's own ASL?

No? Why not?

alli think of spoken means VOICE. how can you explain to hearing people that spoken but not using voice?

ASL users have the right to full First Amendment protection, of course.

Only thing I could see is that it simply confuses hearing people because they would wonder how one can speak? They don't think of anything else.

When we deny that ASL as a spoken language, hearing people would easily agree that Deaf can not function in their life because they can't speak which in fact is NOT true. No spoken language? How can you (Deaf ASL users) function in your life? That is how they generally thinks.

how do you think nethanderals communicate

I see you have a difficulty with this word - is Neanderthal.
I have little trick to help me remember some pesky words. I try to match them into something easier that somewhat make sense put together.
here's the trick to this:

Neanderthal -
- long before a time, before people walked upright, there were three "friends"
NE AND ERTH + AL

NEANDERTHAL

Hope that helps

Then no, I wouldn't, but I do not understand how can I do not want to lose something that is already lost?

Which part in 1st Amendment that ASL user have the right to full amendment protection?
The whole thing, of course.

What is your problem?

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."
