My HP Photosmart Premium printer quit printing the black ink. It prints all the color inks but not the black. That really bums me. :(

I printed color photos on Friday night, and everything was fine. Saturday night I tried to print some black text documents and nothing. No black.

I changed the black ink cartridge twice, did the cartridge cleaning process, and deep cleaning process, test page, and cartridge alignment. I went to the HP on-line troubleshooting. Nothing has worked.

I hate to buy a new printer.

Reba, don't printers have parts that print what colors you need? Maybe see if something is clogged inside the black ink part?

If it has a COPY feature, , try and make a B/W copy and see if it does that, if it does then maybe there is a glitch in the software, reload the disk if you have it still?

I've reloaded the software twice, once from the disk, and once from online. I'll try the copy function.

Do you mean the printer heads?

Yes. However, like Sono said, it might be inaccessible, and might get damaged, and if that's the case, maybe call their Customer Support for advice? I don't want to give you the wrong advice. Or take it to a computer store that has professional expertise with that kind of stuff, perhaps? You might be able to get a quote on repair prices? I know of one that does that locally.

This once worked for me, try reinitializing the printer by unplugging it for a good minute then reconnect and clear any warning messages on screen.

A hammer works wonders too, it it doesnt then just whack it a little harder or get out the BFH !!!!**

** Not expert advice**

That was supposed to be done as first step for any troubleshooting on electronics.

yea the first thought would be clogged nozzle as sono suggested.

my friend has a commercial-grade printer for tshirt ($20,000+ value). the sucky part is that her room must be kept at 47% humidity level or above otherwise the nozzle will clog up or ink will get dry.

I already went to HP's online support. I'm not going to spend money on repairs. It would be almost as cheap to buy a new printer.

I did that about 10 times today.

Reba, I used to repair printers.

Printheads are very easy to replace.. I remember being amazed that people would pay us to repace their printheads when I know they could do it themselves.

If you are using Genuine HP ink cartridges and already tried replacing it, I would suggest getting printhead and replacing that. It does come with instructions if I recall correctly. If not, It is on internet.

I would gladly guide you through it if you wish. Just send me a private message.

I tried the COPY feature, and that didn't work either. :(
