Bomb Threat at My City School Lead to boy having Master Key to School

Wonder how they determined that the master key was stolen. I can't think of any reason why a 16 year old boy would have a master key (other than bad if he had a knife on him too) except maybe he was in some kind of position authorized by staff...
 
Could that key have been made for something else and just happened to fit the school? I have heard of just so many different cuts being manufactured and at times something fitting it wasn't acquired for.
 
Since it was initially a bomb threat, why were the kids forced to stay locked in the building? I would think an evacuation would be in order.

I just pulled up the link again and it makes no reference to a BOMB just a THREAT. So, could they have been looking for a hidden gunman or gunmen?

This is the first thing that same to my mind and my daughter too when I told her about it. I told my daughter if she was at school I would gone there and tried to get her out of the building myself. I have no idea what the cops where thinking or if they where thinking . I agree with 100% the students should had been removed from the building as soon as they got the email.

How else would the boy had gotten it , if he was "in some kind of position authorized by staff" he would not had been arrested. Believe me no student has that kind authority at the high school .
 
The arrest part I took more to be for having the knife on him. I understand that they considered the key to be stolen property but my question was how they determined that. There are kids who may be in student body government or president of the school who might have need of such a key temporarily :dunno: I am not saying any kid has 'that kind of "authority" only that there might be a chance he may have had it for some sort of after school event or need at the permission of a teacher or staff. There's a lot missing from the story (from my view at least).

Are you guys for real ??? All the public schools have a maintenance staff and they're the one have the masters keys to locked up and open the school. There is NO WAY IN HELL a student would be allowed have key to school with all the crap going on now! The maintenance staff have to clean up the school at the end of the day , I have seen a maintenance staff at high school at night when I went there for town meetings or to see my daughter in a play . None off the students had a key .

Are YOU for real?

Is it not possible that just MAYBE MAYBE sometimes it IS possible for a trusted student to have some kind of responsibility like this? I don't know the entire story with THIS particular kid what with the knife and all but in general it is theoretically possible for a responsible kid to have responsibilities more than what some people give credit for!

Whether a kid is responsible or not isn't the issue. It has to do with school policies. I can't imagine that school authorities would have a policy that allows students to have possession of a campus master key. Most staff members aren't even allowed master keys, so I don't know why a student would be allowed.

Now that the master key has been compromised, all the door locks will have to be re-keyed at taxpayer expense.

Thank you Reba! It's so great to have someone that get this. You're so correct , if the student had been a high honor student and captain of the football team he still would not been given the master key to the high school.

Maybe it was not intended to be the master key but just the key to a certain door and the wrong key was given.

OMG! You sure are not the brightest bulb in the box! There is NO WAY IN HELL any student would give any key to their school!!!

I still can't imagine that a student would be allowed to keep a key to any school property. However, master keys and room keys are usually very different in cut and appearance, should be labelled, and should be under stricter custody. That is, the master key should be under the principal's custody. If the high school has a security officer, that might be someone else who would have access to a master key.

If the master key isn't being held in tighter custody than that, I would say the school administration might be in deep do-do for their slackness.
 
I just called my daughter and asked her if any student where given a master key or any key to open the high school up or lock it up and my daughter said "NO!" She was a student at this school for 4 years.
This should put this to a rest.

It depends on circumstances. At my school the students were regularly given keys. Now they give out cards instead since they updated the doors with card readers.
