AT&T/DirecTV merger announced for $49 Billion

2 shitty services

I'm DirecTV customer.

I hate at&t.

That why we need to repeal Telecommunication Act of 1996.

Jess and I don't trust AT&T, their service reach in rural areas stinks really. How can they possibly run a sat biz?

Not surprised..used to have landline phone for my tty at the time. Since I have cable... Bye bye att :)

Call/email/write your representative in Washington and tell them you are not happy with the merger and they better go to bat for you to help kill it if they want to stay in DC. Att has got to be one of the worst telecommunications companies in the world and they keep getting bigger and worse at the same time. As for cell phone coverage in rural areas Diabolique it can't be any worse than it is in most cities, I like to call it the can and a string phone co.

Will be interesting to see what happens.

A friend of mine has ATT for their cell phones. Because they have to. Otherwise they'd drop it like a hot potato. Where they live it is the only service that offers 'international' plans (I think I mentioned this in another thread somewhere). This year alone they've managed to eff them over very very well through no fault of theirs. I'm not sure what they will do if this goes through...Will be interesting to see if the price will drop. She did tell me that there may be a cheap enough package (TV, landline and internet) but still can't afford that anyway right now.

like I said before... my relatives who once worked for Ma Bell over 40-50 years ago are turning in their graves...

We used to have Pac Bell here, becomes SBC, then AT&T... big companies like AT&T can afford buying those small companies and keep growing bigger and bigger.

Yes, we had BellSouth and it was formed after breakup of at&t in 1983.

In some rural area, they are running under Windstream (my area) and CenturyLink.

AT&T does suck. I had terrible service with them the short while I suffered with their service. Never again... never, again....

Oh wow, sorry to hear and I think Tampa metro is under Verizon territory (GTE).

I have cable TV and internet and T-Mobile for my cell phone, I avoid Verizon too! :D I hate Verizon just as much... :squint:

AT&T bought Alltel wireless last year and is converting is all over so I'm stuck with it for now. Only other comparible sized cell companies around here is Verizon and Tmobile.

My parents in Southern IL have Alltel, and they're not happy about it. They also brought out Cricket Wireless, effectively screwing me, as well. My parents don't have as many options as I do, unfortunately. I, however, am considering my options carefully before I switch companies. They also have DirecTV, which, in my opinion, for them, is a double whammy.

I thought Verizon bought Alltel Wireless too.

Our area used to be Alltel landline before Windstream tookover in 2006.

Alltel's system is 3G AT&T is 4G after AT&T bought them out they are converting the system over to 4G one state at a time. They are in the middle of converting NC to 4G and when it's done this summer I'll have to go in and get a AT&T cell on the new network they aren't leaving the customers any choice the 3G network sooner or later won't work. Only thing that can be done is go somewhere else after the contract period expires. Prepaid can go elsewhere at anytime.

They did years ago but split it up 3 ways. Some switched to Verizon, some went to Tri Atlantic cellular or something like that and the rest stayed Alltel. I was in Arkansas at that time and the Alltel there went to Verizon. It stayed Alltel in NC and to the east of me it went to the other company.
