Looks like some of you are going to have a rough week. Amazing to read that Oklahoma gets between 50 to 100 tornadoes every year yet some of their schools have no safe shelters. I am thinking of all of you in that part of the country. Please be safe....I don't know how you get through these things.

Curious of those who live in these areas.....do you have a safe house? Mike lives in Missouri which looks like they may get hit with one of these.

My house is a raised house, but it does have an area in the basement away from windows if a tornado should strike Cook County.

Well, I checked the weather for this week in relation to the current tornado outbreak, and the local forcast shows 40's and 50's, much too cool for a tornado to happen here. It needs to be 70 or warmer for that to happen.

False. Temperatures can be lower. There can be tornadoes any month of the year. Rare but not unheard of having one in winter months. The changes from hot to cold can make it worse sometimes.

Not where I live, it's not. Tornadoes never form here below 70 degrees, and that's because of Lake Michigan, which does play a factor.

How warm does it have to be for a tornado to form

that pretty much proved KikLove's post correct... it can happen anytime, anywhere - just like snowing in southern states. and freak winter storms. and freak tornado in NYC couple years ago. and freak earthquake in entire east coast 3 years ago.

Yeah, I saw the map. We're not anywhere in danger, so we're okay. Just rain, and scattered thunderstorms.

We have had tornados here in MD before. Last year, we were under tornado warnings several times in May and June. Got used to it even though it is nerve racking.

You are still not taking into consideration Lake Michigan. It affects Chicago weather in ways you have no idea about.
