Best Deaf Friendly Restaurants

Am I the only person that just skips the drive thru and goes inside? :) unless I have my kids with me then I can....."did they say something yet?" "What did they say" :D

But no, I don't have a favorite deaf friendly place. One, I don't go out much, two I've never gone anywhere that I had a bad experience because I'm deaf. Even at take out places for pizza or sandwiches when your order takes awhile and them they call your name. I let them know I won't hear it and every place I've been has always gotten my attention to let me know my order was ready.

I usually go inside too, I've just not been in a mood to deal with people lately and I'd rather not eat fast food, but it's cheap and I'm not well off enough to go anywhere else, so I'm not really too particular. :(

Because I like the zangy taste of Italian Cheesesticks with garlic butter. It's irresistible. That, and it's budget friendly.
 
Like Ambrosia and Saavik if I am picking up fast food just for myself I often go inside. If there is a reason I want to stay in the car I will give an order at the speaker and end with the comment that I cannot understand them on it to confirm what it is and will check with them at the window. I can't remember having any problems with this.

On the other hand there is a group of us that go out to eat together most Sundays after church. At one of the locally owned places we go to one of the waitresses knows us so well that she often has drinks ready for whoever is running a bit late if she has been told we are coming by the first ones to get there. I am the only one in the bunch with a hearing problem but she does it for all of us.
 
It's cheaper to make food yourself. If you shop right and learn to cook. Nothing can compare. That said I'm not suggesting any one be a hermit. But if you need to really save loot. Shop smart and cook.
Then again Im Italian. That's real Italian not little ceasers shit. So when I cook I cook (kisses fingers ) and it's an exquisite art, I can make from scratch anything. My Alfredo sauce has mesmerized people. The right vino and the right dish...........

You bring home a big Mack or some nasty pizza and garlic sticks......sorry pal your wife,,,,she invited me over to experience the real sensation Italiano cooking can produce not the tongue.....the exhilaration my home made chili olive oil sauce ( familia secret) , sending shivers down the nape of her neck like......showing her it's telling that it's better in sign....yeah nice kitchen, pal. Your a side show. Pass the zucchini grazia.

I think you should start your own restaurant if you are the most excellent chef (cook). Just don't tell us not to go to restaurant if we want to have some time off from cooking to enjoy the savory of the food from the restaurant. We need that break. Beside, we like going out and have some enjoyment of eating out. I can cook at home unless I want to go out, just to get out of the house. :cool2:
 
don't have a particular deaf friendly restaurant here. I prefer home made meals over a restaurant meal but I do go out to restaurants and most of the time, most servers are accommodating.
 
I;ve cooked and cooked tooo many years and now my boys are grown so I like to go out to eat often....

and I've no problems ordering take out fast food...thru the speaker....luckily, after being deaf for over 50 years, I still have my speech as I never stopped talking....I do check the bag to make sure the order is right...and there are napkins and condiments in there.....

At one particular fast food place around here, and not just one location, I have to check to make sure my plain hamburger is PLAIN, NOTHING ON IT, as I ordered it. Just happened to me again the other day...inside. I'm sure the order taker got it right, but the preparer put everything on it. I checked it right there and handed it back to her. :roll: I still go to this place because I like their hamburgers...when there's nothing on it.

Bebonang, far be it from me to tell people not to go out. it was just a friendly suggestion to save loot if loot is in short supply. cook and learn wicked cooking
i never wanted to actually work in the industry. but i ended up doing more cooking then i wanted. being invited over to peoples homes to cook, getting hired for parties ect ect. i even woudl supply specialty wines. i kinda made it entertainment too. i even had an investor.
i was close to calling my business "Hoichi i'm so itchi" due to the fact, more often then not it would start in the kitchen but as the vino and amazing Italian dishes where consumed alas we would move into a more discrete room for the rest of the evening

while i had oodles of fun and met some smookin high class chicks, my heart was and still is in teaching karate. so i cut back on that rising plm of allocation my time. and am now strictly dojo oriented though truth be told
i'm still available if the woman is cute enough, and the menu is in my reach and the price is right. i still have my cards with condo concierge.....
i ave been offered a weekend job at a cottage in the woods, for a private gathering i dunno i haven't decided yet...........

We have a casino not too far from our house. The buffet is amazing BUT people are allowed to smoke in the casino and that just ruins it for me.

It's interesting. I don't think Iowa allows smoking anywhere that is enclosed.

I was pretty surprised when we went. All casinos in California are independent Indian Nation casinos and they don't have to follow the state smoking laws.
 
Yup, once you leave the highway and park on the premises of an Indian casino, you have basically left your State........heck, you have even left the good ole US of A!!
 
I love the family owned restaurants. Much better food than the chain restaurants!
 
For me, it really varies.

Someone could say, "Yeah, Taco Bell is deaf friendly!" But that would be the local Taco Bell that person went to and not apply to all Taco Bell locations.

I guess it really varies on the community that you're in.

During my time in RIT (in Rochester, NY)... almost every restaurant I went to was deaf friendly. That's because Rochester had a huge deaf community. Some restaurants even had their menus simplified and printed out on small sheets of paper for deaf customers to mark down their orders.

For instance, there's a sub sandwich place called Dibella's. The way they take your order is like the "Soup Nazi" as seen on Seinfeld. They're quick to call up the next person and take their order as quickly as possible. Well, they had their simplified menu printed out and stacked up at the front. So, you take one... mark down the size, what condiments, meat, cheese, sauces, toppings, etc... and hand it to them.

Another place was California Rollin', a sushi place. They have a small sheet of paper with every sushi printed on it and a little box at the end. Just write down how many of each next to what you want and give it back. That's it. :)
