Does anyone believe his story that he had a schizophrenic episode?

I don't know anything about the illness so it's hard for me to judge.
 
What I find so disturbing about the whole is how easily the guy was able to get so close to so many world leaders. I wonder how much background check it done on people that do interpret for government officials . The company guy worked for has vanish into thin air , there is something strange about the whole thing.

I'd be VERY peeved off. Of course, like it has been mentioned if it happened in the United States, a big uproar would occur of course.

This guy is just making excuses so he doesn't realizing he was committing fraud and using the money to his advantage. He's not mental, just a con-artist that is looking for excuses for his mistakes.

I think you need to lighten up... I'm certain there is several forums that made threads like this here. Besides, what we post here becomes public and anybody in the world can find this thread in Google. It's not like everyone knows who you are here, forums is where total strangers debate and then make friends if they want to.

Just use your common sense when posting something in the internet, sure we all take risks on the internet but with common sense, the wiser.

Our state chapter of RID sent out a similar statement by email to members. It brought out another push for statewide interpreter licensure.

They both approach it from the broader scope of unqualified "interpreters" being used.

Of course, in the Mandela service situation, that goes beyond simply "unqualified."

I had to laugh at this comment by someone regarding this video:

As a hearing person, I wish there were closed caption, because I cannot read every interpreters signing as quickly as they do it !! Closed captioning would assist me in not only understanding the message, but learning what the different signs for certain concepts are. PLEASE PLEASE...CLOSE CAPTION THIS !!

Does that sound familiar to you?? Now they are on the other side finding out how we feel.

OH MY GOSH!!! Do you have the news on?? I just saw this thread shown on CNN saying "Deaf up in arms about recent imposter" and showed pics of this AD thread!!! I turned to Fox and they did too!!! :eek3:

Especially when you consider his documented history of violence. His ASL skills being the least of their concerns...someone should lose their job. I believe he said the only reason he didn't act was because of the armed guards.....
 
Weird that sign language and Deaf culture are getting national attention this week from two separate events. I am watching NBC Nightly News and they are talking about this situation now. Oh boy..

Marlee Matlin took the high road and said if anything good came out of this it's that people are finally talking about Sign Language....

I agree with her and I said something similar on my FB yesterday. Just wow...that this guy was willing to pull such a stunt in such a world-wide public event. The backlash he is getting by the world is vicious.

Yes , I saw that on TV , he said he did not act out because there where armed guards everywhere and thanks goodness for that. I agree , this show how poor the security was there. One reporter said he was not screened before going through the dates. It was amazing nothing horrible happen .
