Privacy settings, which controls who sees your stuff. How that doesn't mean your friends aren't going to be private and use their facebook like their journal :laugh2:

Exactly. That's just tied into google and cookies, google keeps track of sites you visited and you'll see ads that have to do with those things, something that might interest your age, gender whatever. That's not selling your info. That's illegal.

ANd that's too funny, just last I was on facebook and saw one of those suggested posts (those usually have to do with some of your other "likes" on facebook and your friends) and I said to my sister in law "do you ever wonder about the "suggested posts" you see? I'm always thrilled with the audio book posts. Thanks fb"

Not arguing anything that's been said here, but lots of the big tech companies are upset about the goverment accessing the data they have on us. (Not that they were necessarily protecting our privacy, but it seems like some things are even out of *their* control.)

Google, Facebook, Apple, Microsoft, Twitter, Yahoo, LinkedIn, and AOL have written an open letter pushing for government having less authority to collect our information, etc.

It doesn't make me jealous, but it does make me miss some of my friends.

What depresses me is people who just use it to share stupid memes or ecards. What, no ideas or thoughts of your own?

it applies to me because I do share those. My dad loves them so if it means making my dad happy but others annoyed then the others can unfriend me! Problem solved!!!!!!!!#!!!#!

Count me in too!! I love ecards!! Not so fond of political memes, I ticked my mom off earlier about them......but funny memes and ecards? <3 are we only supposed to tell original jokes we made up? :D
 
No, Facebook hasn't made me miserable AD has with all the credit card stuff making me wonder "What's in your wallet"

nope. I disagree.

I don't let FB dictates how I feel. I'm fine with or without FB. if FB makes people sad and isolated.... then I would recommend them to not use it and I would suggest them to seek therapy to fix themselves.

so? pretty much everybody knows what you buy and what you like. I've been in marketing business for a very long time and majority of people don't care as long as it makes their lives easier. so many information are easily obtained from your banking and credit cards history.... tv cable... library card... computer browsing... etc.

what do you think why chain store like Target is being constructed in a certain location? because Target had enough information to determine that it would be profitable to be there and everybody would benefit from it.
 
I'm not sure about "miserable" per se. I would say when I did have it, I felt like I was more stressed.... in a way. Not like OMG I'M GOING TO EXPLODE stressed or anything, but I definitely got a taste of all the BS and drama not necessarily with my friends, but friends of friends and so on. Deleting it was definitely a good decision for me personally, I like not being caught up in all the stuff that circulates. :doh:

Definitely, you always see adds pop up on your computer when you're browsing, that's because they're pulling your preferences and all that jazz. There's always going to be someone somewhere pulling information from you...

That's why I don't need it-- a couple of my deaf friends in Iowa were not happy with it.
