did facebook make you miserable?

There's no such thing as privacy these days.... I don't pay attention to anyone's dramas and I don't post anything that other people doesn't need to know.

Privacy settings, which controls who sees your stuff. How that doesn't mean your friends aren't going to be private and use their facebook like their journal :laugh2:
Because you will see computer ads targeted towards your interests?

Doesn't seem that threatening to me... Although I was confused when Facebook started showing me a lot of ads for audio books which no one in my household can use...

Exactly. That's just tied into google and cookies, google keeps track of sites you visited and you'll see ads that have to do with those things, something that might interest your age, gender whatever. That's not selling your info. That's illegal.

ANd that's too funny, just last I was on facebook and saw one of those suggested posts (those usually have to do with some of your other "likes" on facebook and your friends) and I said to my sister in law "do you ever wonder about the "suggested posts" you see? I'm always thrilled with the audio book posts. Thanks fb"

Pretty sure Google sells informations too.

Not arguing anything that's been said here, but lots of the big tech companies are upset about the goverment accessing the data they have on us. (Not that they were necessarily protecting our privacy, but it seems like some things are even out of *their* control.)

Google, Facebook, Apple, Microsoft, Twitter, Yahoo, LinkedIn, and AOL have written an open letter pushing for government having less authority to collect our information, etc.

It doesn't make me jealous, but it does make me miss some of my friends.

What depresses me is people who just use it to share stupid memes or ecards. What, no ideas or thoughts of your own?

Who, me? Or just a general thought?

Think about what you are saying.

You don't have Facebook so what metalangel said couldn't possibly apply to you.

No. Happier is correct, because I have some friends who AREN'T happy about having FB, which makes me less inclined to even join up in the first place. Plus, I already mistrust them since they use any info you put on there for THEIR purpose, and I also heard they sell your info, too.

simple.... don't post up info!

I was surfing and saw this one. I found it so interesting. i copied and paste it here. if you want a link, just copy here and put it in google then you ll get alink.

some people closed the FB account for some reasons. could it be the one reason what I copied and paste it here.

FACEBOOK MAKES YOU FEEL 'SOCIALLY ISOLATED AND MISERABLE'
Facebook can make you feel socially isolated and miserable because seeing friends' happy pictures triggers feelings of envy, according to experts from Berlin's Humboldt University and Darmstadt's Technical University.
They claim one in three people feel worse after visiting the site and that their 'general dissatisfaction' with life had increased.
The German researchers studied 600 people and found that those who browsed without contributing were more likely to feel bad afterwards.
Positive images of friends enjoying holidays, commenting on their happy lives or simply posting pet pictures was enough to trigger feelings of jealousy,

The Facebook test group said what riled them most were happy holiday snaps of 'Facebook friends' followed by gushing prose of fabulous lives, great jobs and cracking social diaries.
The academics added people who surfed a lot on such sites were in danger of becoming socially isolated and depressed.

nope. I disagree.

I don't let FB dictates how I feel. I'm fine with or without FB. if FB makes people sad and isolated.... then I would recommend them to not use it and I would suggest them to seek therapy to fix themselves.

Precisely why I won't do it.

so? pretty much everybody knows what you buy and what you like. I've been in marketing business for a very long time and majority of people don't care as long as it makes their lives easier. so many information are easily obtained from your banking and credit cards history.... tv cable... library card... computer browsing... etc.

what do you think why chain store like Target is being constructed in a certain location? because Target had enough information to determine that it would be profitable to be there and everybody would benefit from it.

I'm not sure about "miserable" per se. I would say when I did have it, I felt like I was more stressed.... in a way. Not like OMG I'M GOING TO EXPLODE stressed or anything, but I definitely got a taste of all the BS and drama not necessarily with my friends, but friends of friends and so on. Deleting it was definitely a good decision for me personally, I like not being caught up in all the stuff that circulates.

Definitely, you always see adds pop up on your computer when you're browsing, that's because they're pulling your preferences and all that jazz. There's always going to be someone somewhere pulling information from you...

That's why I don't need it-- a couple of my deaf friends in Iowa were not happy with it.
